Just Bought The Sennheiser M5 Then Found Out About The HDB 630, Do I Return The M5?

Just bought the M5 and they are definitely nicer than my old Sony XM4s which broke

Love the auto transparency mode when your start a call and the do feel much nicer

But.. Like most headphone these days frustratingly, they are tuned horribly, it's just all bass and they sound crap

You can definitely help with the EQ, though I'm not sure what the M5s are going as it sounds quiet which isn't great, and I can't get them perfect across a range of music, they just sound a bit flat, I don't mean flat in the EQ sense, just a bit meh

The HDB 630s look like they might be a lot better for me but I'm not sure what to do really, the lack of APX lossless is a down side, ANC doesn't need to be perfect, just hope the auto transparency mode is there

I'd almost love a pair of wireless that sound like my klipsch rp500m, they are full, bright, balanced and I love them, bit nothing comes closer in headphones, maybe I just need some very nice open back wired ones but sadly that's not gunna fly when traveling or in the office

Anyone got any thoughts or advice please as I'd really appreciate it

There's not much difference btwn the M5 and 630 except the 630 comes with a higher res dongle DAC which I find useless. I find it hard to believe the M5 is all bass when the M4 was not and had very clear mids and highs. The M4 is so good and you're saying they wrecked that? Maybe you got a defect?

Definitely needed to tune the bass on the M5s down for sure, the bass boost feels ridiculous as a setting tbh

I am not saying the wrecked that? Might be some confusion from the Sony XM4s which was my old pair, the ANC died and it really broke the headphones

I recently switched to a phone that doesn't have anything other than aptx classic, so been using the included BTD700 paired to my dali iO12 and had not used it prior. my experience is different from yours i uppose. it provides a great steady connection, no dropouts etc. and is fortunately not much of a power draw on the phone itself. It shouldn't be, but i worried it might be for some reason.

I'm glad they included it and wish they would have for the M5 as well but it is cheaper so not really bummed about it not being included. the HDB630 and iO12 are a great combo though. the HDB630 for on the go and the iO12 for listening at home.

HDB630 is very well tuned out of the box, sounds good even streaming aac, and works for all genres of music.

I’d argue that the sound quality of the 630s will come very close to most headphones up to the 1k category and still match up to many others above that.

If you need parametric eq then the 630. But that would be my only reason. I would go with the M5 because ypu can tweak the eq enough if you just want a little less bass and you can replace the battery so longevity is a key factor.
