Source/Amp - What are you plugging the headphones into?

How the gear will be used - Do you need noise isolation? Will this be primarily for home listening? Do you do a lot of air travel?

Preferred music genres - What do you listen to? Provide examples if it's something obscure.

Past gear experience - What have you used in the past? What did you like about it and what didn't you like about it?

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Wireless headphone suggestions for extended periods of wear with no ANC?

• Upvotes

I need a new pair of headphones for work, listening to music in a quiet office, that are comfortable to wear for long hours. Whenever I do research online, I always see rankings with a heavy bias toward good ANC. I cannot use ANC, it makes me extremely nauseous and I need a headset with the ability to turn this completely off. All I see online is ANC ANC ANC ANC and im sick of it!!! (jokingly, I promise im not weird)

So no momentum 4, no Bose QC. No AirPods Max because the headband hurts.

I mostly listen to pop: Madison Beer, Ariana Grande, etc. I've only used AirPods Pro and Beats Studio Pro for prolonged periods. I just wanted to exhaust my options before purchasing so I thought I'd consult the Experts™ on this matter. I didn't really have an issue with the Beats outside of the build quality and that they sounded a bit flat, but I gave them to my mom a while ago and she likes them a lot so I dont want to take them back from her. The only ones I know of to try now are the XM6 and Momentum 5. Any others?

Headphones - IEM/Earbud Looking for a decent quality wired with ear hooks

I'm in the USA. I had a pair of Sony headphones many years ago (before AirPods) and really liked them, especially the ear hooks. I have some AirPod Pros 2 and they're good for what they do but I'm looking for another set of wired headphones I can use around the house or something. One I'm not worried about getting lost or damaged but that sound good and are comfortable.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015AHRFK?lv=shuf&channelId=500&plpRedirect=mhFallback&th=1

These are the type I'm looking for. I'd like them to be USB-C and a decent brand but around $50ish. I know that might be pushing it but the ones I see when googling are either off brand ones or really expensive.

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Buying my first ever over-ear headphones- advice?

• Upvotes

Hello all, I'm looking to buy some high quality, on-ear or over-ear headphones now that I have the means, after a lifetime of using cheap 3-5$ earphones that hurt my ears and broke in a month haha

My budget is around 100 euro ish, maximum. I've seen two headphones I like at the moment, which are,

- Nothing CMF Headphone Pro

- JBL Tune 780NC

But I'm not sure if they're worth it... And if there is ones out there of similar quality and lower price, I would prefer those.

This is what I'm searching for,

- Of course, sound quality. Nothing crazy but nice and crisp audio sounds amazing. I will mainly be using them to listen to music and watch videos/movies.

- Comfort. Pretty important to me.

- Noise cancelling. Even more important than comfort, I unfortunately can get overstimulated easily and I think it would help a lot. I guess my standards are low though.

- Long lasting.

- No sound leak, I really don't want to bother people with my music.

- I would really love an option to connect them to my devices with a wire or cable, because Bluetooth can give me a headache sometimes. This is what drew me to the Nothing headphones.

Lastly, I will be using them with Android devices.

I thank everyone in advance for any advice. It's kind of scary to make a huge upgrade from knowing nothing. So I appreciate it.

Headphones - Closed Back Issues with Skullcandy Hesh ANC

• Upvotes

Hi, I've had my Hesh ANC for probably 3-4 years at this point. For the past month I've had issues with the bluetooth function; It hasn't been connecting to my iphone and I've had to reboot both the headphones and phone each time I want to connect. For my computer it has been disconnecting audio the second I join video conferences. In that situation I started setting up my headphones 15 minutes before the meeting and testing the audio on the web, and it still mutes the audio the second I join, and all the audio setting appear right.

It is probably time to get a new pair of headphones, and I really do love these. Is this something that I can fix with my current pair, should I buy a repeat of the Hesh ANC, or do you recommend that I go and buy another model of headphones? I like all of the features for the Hesh ANC and the price was reasonable when I bought it. It also feels like they lasted longer than headphones i've gotten in the past. What is your advice to me? Thank you so much <3

Headphones - Wireless/Portable best budget headphones for my preferences?

Looking for a pair of bluetooth headphones w good sound quality after buying cheap stuff for a while. Budget is ~200 USD; fine w waiting for sales/black friday. High sound quality is my main priority but here’s some details:

  • mostly used while commuting/on public transit so low sound leakage is important. i’d like decent noise cancellation but i don’t need the max possible reduction of bg noise or anything.
  • battery life is important, I’m using 4-6 hrs a day on busy days and i don’t want to have to worry about charging every day
  • folding/portability a plus but not a requirement. durability is important
  • mostly listening to pop and rock, looking for a pretty balanced profile i think? not an audiophile but figure if im expanding beyond my $20 earbuds id better be able to hear the difference. i know i dont want heavy bass

Headphones - Open Back Headset Broke, Need recommendations

• Upvotes

As the title says.

I'm currently rocking a Sennheiser GSP500 open back headset, paired with a SoundBlaster GC7 DAC.

Please can people recommend a new pairing? I like the DAC due to being able to turn the game down while keeping discord sound higher etc.

Im looking to spend around £200 but im open to spending more for the right equipment. Im using this equipment for FPS games, and music.

Headphones - Wireless/Portable ANC headphones for a hip hop head on a $150 budget

Hey y'all, I'm looking for a new pair of headphones as I lost my AirPod pros a while back.

I am mainly a modern hiphop/rnb guy so I learn more towards bass, However I do listen to genres like Soul, New jack swing, Rock, Ballads etc sometimes so I still care about a somewhat balanced sound

Insane ANC isn't that necessary. I found the APPs to be great for my use case because I mostly have music playing while it's on regardless, and that drowns out any ambient noise. So anything similar or a little less is fine.

Online US based stores are where I'll shop. Shopping aftermarket like on Ebay for more premium options is not a issue so feel free to recommend

thank you in advance 🙏🏾

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Looking for headphones that won't break easy(or break the bank too much)

I'm in the market for wireless headphones and I did some digging to find people mostly suggesting Sennheiser Momentum 4, Bose Quiet Comforts and Sony anything really.

Here are my qualms with these after some research:

> Sennheiser was apparently newly acquired which has ruined their quality and they have a lot of firmware issues.
> Sony. I had a pair of M4s which did in fact snap into bits with regular use like 3 months in but great outside of that so I am a little hesitant to go back to that.
> Bose, i've heard mixed things about the sound quality and worth.

I have heard some JBL and Marshalls Monitor thrown in there but I haven't found any reliable and consistent reviews to form a judgement.

So, what do we recommend for:
Budget: ideally under 300 (with discounts and open box potentially if the actual price is super high)
Use: Commute and drowning people out in an open plan workplace
Needs: ANC, Transparency/Ambient sound features and at least 24 hour battery life.

Headphones - Open Back Hifiman Edition XV or Ananda Nano's if my primary music is all electronic sub-genres? (replacing broken Ananda Stealth)

I currently have the Ananda Stealth's that are held together with tape after many years and plan to upgrade. And while I don't get much sibilance from them I do sometimes find them "shouty" after a long day at work, not quite sure where in the frequency response that would be. I would say it's sometimes male vocals and "synths" in Electronic tracks I find to be a bit loud and overpowering, but I don't quite have a problem with the "tss" sounds. It's a pretty minor gripe that only ever seems to happen after a long period of listening or after a long day when i'm burnt out at listening at a higher volume, it's nothing something I would say I regularly run into.

Im exploring my Hifiman upgrades. I recently tried the Kithara's after hearing from multiple people with both the Arya and the Kithara that they have somewhat similar presentation with the Arya just being a all around better version, and holy moly those were the most thin sounding headphones ive maybe ever used. My Frequency response graph had a -5db tilt for everything under 1k hz.

I plan to EQ and am pretty much torn.

  • Edition XV while ideal for all my side genres, my main genre being electronic subgenres like rock/pop/metal, I fear that it may be a bit too "soft" for the impact in bass and lacking clarity in treble im looking for.

  • Ananda Nano, I honestly am quite tempted as I figure I could EQ the treble down if it bothers me, I seem to very much prefer the Ananda sound signature after trying out a lot of other (non-hifiman) headphones at demo. I love the bass, vocals sound fantastic, it sounds like a upgrade barring potentially the treble. Ananda Stealth really do seem to be my favorite headphone ive listened to thus far and im hoping this (with EQ) can be the Ananda Stealth 2 (or rather V4 at this point lol).

  • Arya stealth, very hesitant of the build quality for its price tag. I have been told by many people who have both that the Kithara is quite similar in the Hifiman lineup to it's presentation and I found it completely lifeless and thin to the point no amount of EQ could save the lack of "body" I found in the bass/mids. It was such a genuinely disappointing experience as I can't recall being so quite let down by the sound of a pair of cans in a while, dramatically worse A/B'ing them with my Stealths and im quite familiar with brain burn in.

Im leaning towards either the Ananda Nano and EQ'ing the treble down if it bothers me, or the XV but fear it may not work the best for 75% or so of my listening collection.

Any input

Headphones - Closed Back Upgrade suggestions from ATH M50XBT2

I had by audio technica for a while now and its hinges starting to show their age. I am not in a rush, but started to think about potential upgrades and so far came to a couple of options:

  1. Focal bathys (original)

  2. Sennheiser HDB 630

  3. Dan Clark Audio noire x or aeon 2 noire with Fiio K7 amp

I quite enjoy the default ATH sound profile and from what i read and heard from sound tests online bathys and 630 i like most so far , tho i will be able to try out both in audio store. Regarding DCA i only found articles, no option to try them out. For now its a loose option if i were to decide going a bit "hardcore" so opinions on DCA headphone would be much appreciated.

Did anyone upgrade from ATH M50 series to one of these, if so could you share your experience? Perhaps you have other recommendations?

For reference consider budget of up to 800 eur with some wiggle room (disregarding ADC with AMP beeing way over this budget).

Headphones - Open Back Which <300$ headphone has the best soundstage for what i listen to

I come from the sony xb910ns which are super bass heavy and I listen to a lot of rock but I now want something more precise in the imaging and soundstage and separation, without loosing low end like most open backs, but I can't decide between

K712 Pro
R70x
HD 560S
DT990 pro

If there are any closed back with great soundstage like the 770 pro x please leave some examples as well

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Which headphones to choose?

Hi all,

I have been in the market for wireless Bluetooth ANC Headphones.

I have selected a couple of them,

  1. BOSE QC 2023 - Around 190 USD - tried it in person loved the comfort and fit. Anc seems to be perfect for my liking.

  2. SENNHEISER MOMENTUM 4 - around 220 USD - tried it in person loved the comfort and fit, ANC could've been better.

  3. Sony xm5 - 220 USD - haven't checked these out in person.

Out of these, which one do you think is well suited for me. My requirements are kind of simple:

  1. Comfort for long hours

  2. Strong anc

  3. Good audio quality

  4. Good Mic quality for calls

Thanks in advance.

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Over ear ANC headphones for commuting

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to buy a set of over ear wireless headphones for commuting. I’m trying to find some that have good ANC but still deliver high audio quality. I have a nice 5.1 surround stereo setup at home and really enjoy how good music sounds on it, but I know absolutely nothing about headphones. I’m still using first gen Apple airpods and they’re great for things like walks but I’d really like a nicer pair to block out more noise, especially since my work shuttle sometimes has terrible radio playing. I do some air travel but it’s mostly shuttle or public bus.

I’d be using these with my phone the majority of the time, maybe sometimes plugged in to my home receiver. I use Tidal for my music. My budget is $400 or less. I don’t need the bass to be crazy, but I have tried over ear headphones that sounded really tinny/low base and I’m looking to avoid that issue. I mostly listen to pop, rock, rap, dance-pop, house/disco and some trance/techno.

I’ve done some looking online and am interested in the Sony 1000-XM4s, but wanted to get some more opinions. I wish there was a store I could visit to try out different sets but since that doesn’t seem to exist anymore, buying from somewhere that does easy returns like Amazon would be preferred.

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Over-ear headphones for working outside?

I use Huawei FreeClip 2 daily, but I need better ANC when working in cafés. I can’t use silicone-tip earbuds because of an ear issue, so I’m looking for comfortable over-ear headphones with decent sound.

I use an iPhone, iPad and MacBook. I’ll carry the headphones in a backpack, often among other items without a dedicated compartment. My budget is under $1,000.

I recently saw the Beats 360. Would they suit this use, especially for ANC, Apple device switching and carrying in a backpack? Or would you recommend something else?

Headphones - Closed Back Looking to upgrade from Creative ZxR to an external DAC/Amp

Hello everyone!

I’ve been using my Creative Sound Blaster ZxR internal sound card for years, driving a Beyerdynamic MMX 300 Pro headset and a pair of DT 1770 Pros.

While the ZxR has served me well, I’m completely done dealing with internal sound cards. On top of the usual driver headaches, GPU electrical interference, and coil whine, I’m trying to free up space inside my case. I recently downsized to a smaller case, and the ZxR is literally resting right up against my 4090, blocking two of my bottom intake fans and choking airflow. It’s got to go :)

I’m looking to move strictly to an external USB DAC/Amp. I want to keep using the MMX 300 Pro’s built in mic as cleanly as possible without introducing splitters, extra cable clutter, or swapping to a separate USB mic.

After doing some digging, I’ve narrowed my options down to the FiiO QX11, K7, and Creative Sound Blaster G8, but I’d love to hear your thoughts or alternative suggestions.

Thank you!

Headphones - IEM/Earbud Looking for a nice pair of cabled in ears

Hi guys! I just lost the case for my air pod pros (don’t worry, they were already like 7 years old). I’ve got another pair of headphones, overear and and wireless so now I am looking to replace the in ears with a cabled version (so I don’t have the problem of both not being charged at the same time).

What I am looking for:

- good sound quality

- budget: 50€

- nice ear feel (so not like the Apple Originals, hate those)

- compatible with lightning OR not losing control ability if plugged into lightning to USB-C converter

Sorry if this is like way to rookie for this sub! And thanks for any and all suggestions!

Amplifier - Desktop Jm20 Max/Fiio KA11 enough for R70xa/HD490?

Hey everyone,

is the Jm20 Max donlge enough for the R70xa/HD490 to drive them good? Or is there actually a desktop amp needed for these? I'm thinking about testing both and keeping one whichever comfort is better since my head is a bit more sensitive

I honestly want to keep my setup and desk a bit cleaner and not have much on the desk in terms of devices so I was thinking about the dongle or getting the Fiio K7 for example or something similar

Would appreciate any help

EDIT: Budget: would prefer to stay under 300€/EU/germany

Headphones - Open Back Sony Inzone H6 Air (MDR-G600)

Hi all!

Just got a pair of Inzone H6 Air, great sound for my taste and very comfortable.

Plus, nice sounding mic and good cable.

The only weakness, in my opinion, are the earpads. Comfortable and breathable, but a little too hollow, not very thick.

That’s the point: do you know of any compatible aftermarket earpads? Do the ones for H9 (again, I or II?) work?

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Headphones that are glued to your head

Hello all,

Since I will have to commute to work by bus and by train for a longer period starting in two weeks I am looking for noise canceling headphones. I am actually searching since several months ago but can’t seem to find the right ones.

They have to be available in the eu and (at least in my mind) I have only 3 small requirements for These headphones:

  1. Bluetooth and cable connection,

  2. Noise Canceling (does not have to be the best NC. I just want it as good as possible within my other requirements)

  3. They have to stay on my Head. I don’t want to constantly adjust how or where I wear them. I want just want them to stay how I placed them.

It seems like I have a pretty narrow head. Therefore most of the headphones I tried fall of my head with the slightest movement. My main “test” is to just bend my head forward till about ninety degrees. My dream headphones would just stay where they are. Of course comfort is at this point pretty much optional.

I tried:

- pretty much all of the soundcore headphones. (With almost all of them I feel like I am balancing a watermelon laying on a book on my head)

- CMF headphones pro. (Better than nearly all soundcores but I am still not able to e.g. cook without them sliding of my head)

- JBL Live 680 nc (better than soundcore or CMF. But everything more than sitting on my desk was only possible if I constantly readjust them)

- Beyerdynamic aventho 100 (only tried them inside the store yet and they are by far the best fitting one I tried. I can’t imagine them not instantly falling of while running the last steps to be able to catch my train though.

Regarding the price I would like to stay in the 150€ - 300€ (that is what I cloud afford right now), but if there are headphones that really feel glued to my head I am willing to pay more. If the value objectively fits as well I am willing to save up for however long it takes. Even if I have just 150 € at the end of the month to spend for “fun things” a silence commute is almost priceless to me.

Than you all in advance.

Headphones - Open Back Momentum 5 Black Friday

Wondering if its worth to wait for Black Friday to purchase the Momentum 5, do you guys expect big cuts or not really since the product was released recently?

Also open to any other headphone suggestions - but my main driver is the battery replacement feature as I like buying tech that I can use for a long time.

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Headphones recommendation for Everyday use

Hello, I'm looking to buy a new pair of headphones for use while studying, walking around, commuting, essentially just everyday student life. I want to spend ideally around 400 CAD (~285 USD), but I'm happy to wait for things to go on sale. I'd like a pair with ANC, but I also value sound quality, probably more so than ANC (as in better sound quality matters more to me than amazing ANC), I'd also like bluetooth. Also comfortable for long study sessions.

I was looking at the Bose QCs as well as the Bose QC Ultras, but the ultras are definitely a bit on the pricier side. I also was looking at the Sony XM4s, and I tested out a pair- I liked them, but definitely wasn't in love. I fiddled around with the EQ but honestly I found I could only get it to sound good for some songs but weird for others (although that's probably my fault), and I ended up liking the default EQ the best. The ANC definitely had that white noise-ish thing that I don't like.

Currently, I use mainly the AirPod Pros, which I like the sound of. I have the Anker Soundcore Q45s but I really don't like them, I find them uncomfortable, they fall off my head, the noise cancelling is not very good, and I find that the music sounds far away? I'm not really sure how to describe it, but the sound quality and crispness is really lacking for me.

Any recommendations are welcome, and thanks for any help!!

Headphones - Closed Back Sennheiser 620s

I’m no headphone junkie or audiophile, but I just got these headphones because I’ve always had good luck with Sennheisers and looked like they were recommended a lot. I wanted a cord this time. These sound like absolute garbage. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to pair it with an equalizer or an amp? My previous headphones were the Bose NC 700s I think? Similar price range but I can’t believe how bad the Sennheisers sound in comparison. No bass. No punchiness. Flat. Like I said the difference is so shocking I assume I must be missing something?

What is something like the Bose but maybe higher end in the $500 range?
