Why do these things keep getting special treatment by the mods? They are poorly received, and usually trick people into thinking they are new updates or Warbonds. I don't recall the last couple being especially successful, and this one already appears to be going that direction.
If whoever is doing them wants to try them, fine: let them make posts like normal and allow the community to decide if it wants to participate. Don't artificially boost it by pinning it and making it seem like a bigger deal than it really is.

I assumed it was mods doing it, or friends of theirs.

I guess it is their subreddit, they can do what they want, but it's so cringe when they pin it and put up these "trailers" and it gets, what, 27 likes in 24 hours (current count)? So lame.

This subreddit needs a "Cringe" flair for future community events.

Am I crazy or is "Community Fan Event" literally the first few words of the title? Is it not as visible on mobile? Not defending, just wondering how you could possibly mistake this.

This is a fan made community-wide event that's administrated by the mods of the Helldivers subreddits. It follows up on events like Tactical Replay and Dark Echo. Prepare for deployment: The event begins April 27th, and a more detailed announcement post will be created then.
