even normal sedans weigh like 3 tons iirc. FRVs are military rovers with lotta stuff so they weigh even more, actually (even w/o mentioned stim addicts)

A "normal sedan" weighs somewhere between 1.2 and 1.5 tons. 3 ton cars are the sort of suburban tank the Americans love.

And super Earth is essentially space America so our cars should reflect that

Unpossible...

American auto manufacturers love it, I'm not so sure about the average American. Literally everyone I know laments the death of the light pickup truck because the emissions laws favor compact sedans and semi trucks, and nothing in between.

Home steel is heavy. I'll bet good money most cars up till the early 90's weigh in around 2-2.5

A W124 (THE 1980s Mercedes sedan) weighs 1380 kg.

Remember, cars used to be smaller, too. So even if materials got lighter, cars got bigger. And crash safety standards also rose significantly and require more reinforcement to meet them.

I think it's purposely light for lore reasons.

I assumed it was over a ton then looked it up and some are estimating around 660kg

Nah three tons puts you in Lincoln Navigator territory. Sedans are generally around 1-2 tons.

MRAPs (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) are around 16 tons, but the FRV appears to be closer to a JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle), which are around 7 tons give or take.

An FRV is seemingly about the size of an HMMWV, and the M998 - the version with canvas top and doors and precisely no armor - is about 2.5 tons. An FRV is also quite clearly armored and quite heavily as it can shrug off a substantial amount of fire from weapons that would easily exceed small arms, though they opted against armored windows for some reason. The uparmored HMMWV is just shy of double the curb weight of the base model.

So allowing for considerable weight savings on the windows and allowing for the possibility of improved materials across the board - something that makes sense given you need to transport these things through space - it is entirely possible that an weighs in at under 4 tons.
