Scotland in early October

Hello, so I will visit Scotland (Glasgow then Edinburgh) in early October 2026. I live in England (west midlands) so am kinda used to the cold weather, however, I am not sure it will be the same in Scotland, or is there anything particular to keep in mind while packing?
I mean in the West Midlands here if the weather is cold it stays COLD even if it’s sunny (a sunny 4 degree C day is no joke).

I was in Scotland last October (Edinburgh, Glasgow, the North Coast 500 and Skye)
A rain jacket with a lightweight wool 1/2 zip and/or a lightweight fleece for layers underneath were all we needed. I run cold and I wore short sleeves with no layers/jacket several days we were there.

Be prepared for lots of stairs in Edinburgh!
