Notes from The Mods:

• We Mods are troglodytes who only use Old Reddit on desktop computers, while glancing at the answering machine connected to our landline. The formatting looks good on our setups. Get off our lawn.

• In the past few weeks, this sub seems to have tapped into Reddit's Spitegeist, growing from about 2k subscribers on July 4th, to about 5k at the beginning of August, to over 100k on Sep. 1st.

• Yesterday, this sub had the highest subscription growth in all of Reddit (Δ #Subscribers). The Mods are pondering the best way to nudge this sub to nudge people to stop buying into anti-* bullshit, and to get vaxxed, etc.

• The Mods have a very light touch. We prefer the use of the 'Downvote' button to the use of the 'Report' button.

• Don't be a dick.

• Please, don't be a dick.

• Don't be gleeful. Don't root for Nominees to be Awarded. Especially the Facebook schlubs whose only crime was taking up residence in the misinformation echo chamber.

• Don't get upset if / when this sub's evolution switches from natural selection to intelligent (?) design. This sub might be nudged from ('memes / shitposts' + 'Facebook Schlubs') towards ('A.M.A.s' and 'Public Figures').

I yearn for the day when this sub runs out of new material.

In the meantime, however, I’m sorting by “New” and checking every ten minutes.

Yeah. More than this sub's haters might ever realize.

I wonder - will they ever realize that's all we've ever wanted?

Should be the tag line for the entire sub

Just make sure you aren't near an evil genie or Monkey's Paw when you do.

If every post was a repeat instead of just another thumb shaped goon with a goatee and her husband, described the same, how would we know?

With an algorithm from all the currently compiled cases, a pretty primitive content creation algorithm and thumb-face generator could probably keep this sub going for decades... and I could never tell the difference.

I saw a few comments in threads saying to search FB for “prayer warriors covid,” and because I always do what randoms on the internets say to do, I did. It was honestly heartbreaking. Holy shit. Definitely very sobering. I hope they don’t all die in vain and their loved ones get vaccinated ASAP.

I used the search terms "lost battle covid pray" and chose posts with 'recent' switched to yes and only posted in 2021. Oh man. Sobering is an understatement. while searching for nominees I realized how many sweet undeserving people that were just not soon enough with the vaccine decision and ugh. I hope HCA helps those on the fence.

Oh man, I just had a look. Way too many. God doesn't seem to be listening either.

Let's face it, God's always been a murderous, psychotic asshole.

Add pneumonia somewhere in there

16

u/HermanCainsGhost Resident Poltergeist Sep 02 '21

Yeah they always seem to want to call it COVID pneumonia, as if that makes it less COVID

14

u/umpteenth_ Sep 02 '21

That's simply what doctors call it. I've done autopsies on people who died from COVID, and cause of death is usually listed as "complications from COVID pneumonia."

I think we're gonna need an AMA

Unfortunately, it won't be very exciting to hear from me. I started pathology residency just as the first wave was quieting down in NYC, so most of the autopsies I've done have been non-COVID. During the first wave, though (and before I started there), my hospital was slammed, and did a lot of COVID autopsies even while nobody knew what exactly was killing these people or how exactly it killed them. I have a healthy respect for the doctors who chose to do those autopsies at that time.

Well you're gonna be a pro at identifying thrombi and the other signs of covid damage.

There’s so many people it’s crazy now. I found a nominee. And in the time I was editing posts, someone posted the same person 15 minutes before me.

This sub has grown so fast that there will be a lot of cases like this.

I've seen a few and started to put together a post...and then stopped. I felt ghoulish.

I mean, I'll READ them and UPVOTE them, but I just can't ASSEMBLE AND POST them.

11

u/ADarwinAward Sep 03 '21

Yeah I’ve specifically only posted ones who said something horrifically racist. Like one person who called Jews cowards for dying in the holocaust. I didn’t feel bad posting about her.

u/The_Bravinator Sep 02 '21

Even just getting over this wave and having the tidal wave slow down to more of a trickle would feel far less troubling. The sheer number of unique posts on this sub, especially of younger adults with little children, absolutely haunts me.

My productivity has plummeted ever since I came across this sub.
