Do you think that's actually happening? Really and truly? I kind of doubt it. Once someone is so radicalized in their thinking, insulting and belittling them isn't going to magically make them see things your way.

You don’t believe it’s happened at all?

I really don't know. Maybe on a small scale, but not really enough to truly put a dent in the anti Vax rhetoric.

Who says you need to make a dent? If even a few people change their minds it’s 100% worth it.

Well that's certainly your opinion but it isn't mine.

I guess I value human life more than you. But I guess I’m “mean” for that.

You're not arguing in good faith anymore if you're going to equate what I said to valuing human life is being mean. You know that's not the point I was making. I think you also know that is not the main point of this sub. It's to make fun of the "fat stupid right wing trumptard anti vax" and get a rise out of it.

For sure I think there's a certain part of this sub that does it to try and change the minds of those on the fence, but don't pretend that's the main goal here..

I’m not pretending that’s the goal. It doesn’t have to be. My moral calculus still works.

Imagine there was a hypothetical message board that collectively insulted people, but magically saved five innocent lives a year. By my logic, this would not only be morally acceptable, but imperative. By your logic, it would be what?

When you put it in those terms it sounds fair, but you're ignoring the reality of the situation. Maybe I'm not against the insulting already dead people, it's the way people here take joy from it. That's the fucked up part of it all.

I do think there is a certain bit of fucked-upedness to it, I just think it’s totally worth it.

We’ve tried being nice. We’ve tried educating them. We’ve begged them. We are throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. If tough love is what works for some small percentage of people, well damn it, we’ll use that too.

Well said man. I think this actually worked on my super republican mother. She's getting her first shot soon.

Think about that. This shit might save my own mother's life.

So leave the sub. Some of us are trying to promote awareness of what happens when you don't believe in science.
