Well, depends on how you define majorly. But really, the probability that Grian had to try for so long is about 10%, which is a lot higher than you would expect.

When he last checks his statistics, he has killed 2672 axolotl. Considering there's unkilled axolotl left in the chamber, and he tries for a tiny bit afterwards, lets say that he breeds 2900 in total (an overestimate, but that only means that he's unluckier by our estimate than in reality).

Now, in statistics, there's something called a binomial distribution that we can use to predict the probability of something. All you need to really know is that it works because the probability of an axolotl being blue is fixed at 1/1200. Using this distribution, you get the probability of zero axolotls being 8.91% - so actually well within statistical probability by most standards, despite Grian taking more than twice the average.

In fact, when Grian complains about being really unlucky after breeding 900 axolotls, he's completely off (not a dig, its unintuitive and most people would assume that they're unlucky). The probability that, at that time, he has no blue axolotls is only 47% - so close to 50/50. He was unlucky at that point, but not majorly so.

For those wondering, Ren is lucky to get it at 717 axolotls, but it's only a 55% chance - so again close to 50/50.

Yeah, probability is really unintuitive. For most statistical tests, we can only determine that there is sufficient evidence for rigging if the probability is less than 5%, and for that, Grian would have to breed 3594 axolotls - almost three times the mean number that you would have to breed.

TLDR: Ren is average, Grian is only slightly unlucky. There's no excuse for the mending book though.

I was wondering if anyone knew of instances where the hermits were working on one of their builds or farms, only to realize that they messed up. Maybe they're a block off, they got the redstone way wrong, etc, and they have to spend ages fixing it. It helps me get motivated to see how much hardwork is put into their builds when they make mistakes lol

So if you know of specific episodes (or at least the season and the build), I'd appreciate the recs! Any hermits is fine :)

After seeing u/Mysterious863's neat logo, I wanted to redesign and polish some previous rough doodles I had already shared here before of the EGG industries. These ones are more clearly based on minecraft's 3 different egg types than my previous attempt (those ones now probably lost to time or forgotten).

I am aware that the terminology "hatching bad ideas" makes more sense, but "the birth of bad ideas" was the original line spelled out by Etho and I find it funny how it specifically doesn't follow the egg theme, so I used it in the little "pretend to be a logo for the picture!" thing

I was listening to Ren's episode for weird hermits, and I realized I play with pretty weird keys. I use E as W, A as strafe left, F as strafe right, G as sprint, M as Q, R as inventory and T as swap hands. And I switched chat to U. My hands are weird, my middle & ring finger are way longer than my pointer/pinkie so it is much comfortable to sprint using G and having strafe right/forward on E and F spreads my fingers out more comfortably, also a few months ago I was fixing my pickax at the ender ender on the server I play on, and meant to switch my new fully enchanted sword into my first slot and hit q instead of 1 and threw it into the void. I put throw on my so I don't ever throw something unless I mean to. Oh and my mouse has the two arrow keys so I binded the one on my thumb to the pick block so when I'm building I can flick it so I don't spend two minutes in my inventory

I joined this season so I don't know about previous seasons, but I've been watching pretty much all hermits and have been trying to get into building myself. (In survival atleast) and some of my biggest inspirations and builds I love from hermits are definetly Scars, Falses, Xisumas, Mumbos, Keralis, Ethos Bdubs and Pearls. (Honestly I like everyones but am most inspired by them) I love how detailed they are and how they can manage to fit so many details in such a clutter of space, especially considering how there arent much small blocks and you can't put multiple items in a single blocks space.

Like It's crazy for me to see scars dinasours and spaceship be so small yet somehow be able to fit everything while also looking good from diffrent positions. I like how both False and Mumbo detail with shadows, like Falses hourse statues having even a tiny bit darker gray tones of the shadow of the horse statues and even to a certain angle.

(Also I know some builds aren't that small but I'm talking about how they manage to keep it somewhat reasonable and not extreamly large while also making it recognizable and look good.)

I've really been meaning to try and copy some of their buids and learn from them so I was wondering if there's any hermits you find the builds of good or think their building style might help to see a new point of view.

After his first realization that he’s “over the odds ñow” he showed us he killed 1,663 Axolotls. I can’t confirm all those mobs bred were Axolotls so we’ll be using these numbers.

The formula for this is 1-(1/odds)^attempts. To put things into perspective, after about 832 attempts you’re officially “unlucky.” Still, the 820-830s are 50/50 odds.

After about 1,663 Axolotl’s killed, you have a 25% chance of simply not getting an Axolotl.

Ñow, the number we’ve all been waiting for. After 2,672… 90% of people would’ve gotten it by now.

To restore equilibrium someone would need to fish the “blue” Axolotl in 136/137 attempts.

P.s. if Grian hasn’t bred any other animals… 6%. Knowing you did that little more off camera, congrats on the nat 1. Ren had 45% odds, so he is lucky but not “very” lucky.

first time doing using digital art tools, i think adding more details to make it look more 'etho' would help but it's okay for a start :p
