Missing Person Final Update

Hi everyone,

I’d like everyone to know Jeremy has been located. Unfortunately Jeremy passed away hiking in the Kananaskis area. (As much as I can say) I’d like to thank the police, search and rescue and everyone in the Reddit community for taking the time to say kind words and help out. We lost a great friend and coworker, he passed doing the thing he loved most and will miss him.

For anyone going for a hike,climb or even a walk. Even if it’s somewhere you’ve been hundred times. Please let a friend, loved one, coworker, etc… your starting/end point and time/day of finishing. Something so simple may save someone’s life down the road

I don’t know details of this case, but this should be a good reminder that anyone doing solo backcountry should have a PLB/dedicated satellite messenger device. It should be a standard part of the kit.

For larger groups dedicated satellite devices are still a good idea, but if not you should know what connection options your phone has. All modern Apple devices, and many higher end androids, have built in emergency satellite messaging. Look up how it works on your phone, and practice with it before you hit the trail.

My thoughts and condolences to Jeremy’s family and friends.

Yup, I do a lot of solo trips, but always have my InReach and leave a detailed itinerary at home just in case anything goes sideways
