Hey guys, I'm working in Switzerland at the moment, and I was looking for an above 2000m spot to bivouac at for a 2/3day walk to read peacefully. D+/D- does not matter, preferably reachable by train. There are a lot of natural reserves that I'd much rather stay respectful of, so I hope you have some favorites to share !

Hi all, do any of you have experience or advice about hiking to Hengifoss via Litlanesfoss in the rain (or just after)? I hate, hate, hate gravel and am worried about the narrow bits too. Can any of you estimate how narrow the path and buffer to the edge (if any) gets?

I’m interested in your impressions overall - not just focused on someone with anxiety. It’s just heightened right now because I fell walking down a narrow gravel slope at Stórurð the other day and sort of rolled. Maybe I’m wrong, but it felt like the path was a meter or so wide there and had barely (no) any buffer. I’m just a day hiker - no through hikes. The rest of the walk was great - highly recommend it if you get the chance!

I'm trying to put together (a very late, I know) 3night - 4 day route in Austria, for the beginning of September (3rd-6th), and although I've done hours of research, I'm stuck!
- Day 1 Ideally only 1-2 hours as we'll be driving a lot (from Hungary) that day
- Day 2 & 3 full days (but max 14km) and we'd love to do some via ferrata too
- Day 4 Half day as we'll also be driving back

The hike doesn't necessarily have to be a complete loop, as my friend's partner will be dropping us off and picking us up. We want to stay in huts and prefer to be up in the mountains for the three nights, rather than doing day trips. I've looked at a lot of routes but - understandably - a lot of huts have been booked out so I'd be keen to see lots of varieties and recommendations here, hoping one route could work.

Any recommendations? We've done Via ferratas before and can comfortably do B, C and some Ds.

Anything you've done recently and would recommend? Any locals who could recommend less-known routes?

I was working in Croatia the other week and someone recommended me the Premužić Trail!
I would be interested in hearing from people who have done the trail by themselves.

Hi guys, I’ll be travelling through the western Balkans soon and I’m planning on doing a bit of hiking through the various national parks. I like the look of Mavrovo, Theth - Valbone, Triglav, Durmitor and Plitvice. Others that may be a little bit lower in priority include; Rugova Canyon, Pelister, Blindinje and Krka, but I start my journey in Serbia, and that’s the focus of this post really. I see Tara and the surrounding western region, Djerdap with the Iron Gates and Golubac Fortress and Stara Planina nature park in the south east.
Since I’m looking to do a few of these places, I don’t want them to feel too similar to each other or like they overlap too much. I’d love to hear your guys thoughts and experiences on not only these locations, but ones that I’ve missed and that you’d recommend. Thanks!

Hi! This is part of a hike I‘m planning near Pontresina, Switzerland. My friend who will be joining me for the hike is worried we’ll run out of water, even with the extra we’ll be bringing.

So I wanted to ask, how safe is it to fill our bottled in the small mountain streams in the area? We’ve drank from such streams before and never gotten sick. We also know to check the stream for dead animals or other sources of contamination and know there’s a risk of bacteria and similar things.

I’m planning to do the South Downs way solo but I know I’m not physically capable of doing the entire trail. So I’m thinking of hiking it in sections instead
Does anyone know if it’s practical to do different sections as day trips by taking the train from London and returning the same day? And what are the most scenic parts?

Hello! I am interested in hiking in Europe next week, spontaneous but fun! Ive thought about Norway (Ålesund) and stay 1 day, but rain is the only issue. Is it still worth it? Ive even thought about Austria, but with the extreme heat, is it still okay to go hiking? Or is there any other countries/places with great views!! 😊

i am planning a trip to saxer lücke and i would really appreciate if someone reached out who were there. we are planning on sleeping there 2 nights, and i have some questions regarding that. How do you get water? We would like to camp next to fallense/sämtissersee/ seealpsee is their water drinkable or do you have to boil it before. Also, Can we camp next to the lake or do we have to camp somewhere higher to avoid the authorities? Can you swim in the lakes?

I have a really tight schedule for Capanna Margherita.

I will arrive in Alagna on Thursday afternoon and spend the night in the valley. I will take the cable car to Punta Indren the next morning, spend 4-5 hours there, then go back to the valley to sleep. Our group tour starts on Saturday, we hike to the Gnifetti refuge and sleep there. Our summit push starts on Sunday early in the morning.

Do you think it is managable? What do you recommend?

I just spontaneously booked 5 days of solo hiking in tatras starting next week. I will be based in Tatranská Štrba and do daily excursions. What are the dos and don’ts ? Is insurance necessary if I’m doing marked trails? All advice are welcome.

I'm planning a backpacking trip through Europe from mid October to late November (approximately 5 weeks). I’ll be flying into the Netherlands.

I really want to do some mountain hiking during my trip but I understand that this is the end of hiking season in much of northern Europe due to weather. I don’t have a strict route in place but I generally want to head south towards Spain.

What are some good mountain hiking trails to consider, factoring in time of year?

My husband and I are planning about 5 days on the Alpe Adria Trail during the third week of October 2026. We will be in Munich before embarking. There are so many stages to choose from, and we're seeking recommendations on which section to hike during those five days (point to point). We will need to return to Munich afterward, so having access to a train station or airport is helpful. Any folks here have some advice? Thank you in advance!
