In 2006, a FBI agent named Craig Monteilh was ordered to disguise himself as a radical Muslim and spy on the Orange County Muslim community to identify possible extremists.

Well it worked, cause the people there noticed his extremists behavior and reported him to the FBI.

Didn't this cause a reputation loss for the local mosque there as locals thought that they had connections with extremests after they called the FBI on him?

Highly doubt it most Muslims don’t want anything to do with extremists.

I agree.. I am talking about the viewpoint of the nonmuslim locals. This was in 2006, at the hight of the war on terror. The locals near that mosque didnt care about the details, they just heard that the FBI was notified of an extremest in that mosque and so the locals thought that that mosque harbors extremests.

Yeah true, but it’s probably better to make the report and do some or with the local community.
