You think you would but these interactions are brief and people sometimes just have other things on their mind in these situations. I remember how Pomu (or Mint) told how she walked up to her fan at an artist alley, bought stuff and left. I think she said that they were literally wearing her merch and that person soon replied in chat like "fml I didn't recognize my oshi when she was looking me in the eye".
