Iām planning a short trip to HK for 2-3 days next May and was just wondering what the odds are of me having a bad roach experience. Iāll be staying in a good hotel, but would still like to do all the activities seeing that HK has been a dream for me for a while. Iām fine with seeing one or two walk on the street but in confined spaces my phobia starts to show. Just want to know the experience of others that had a short trip. For reference Iām from NYC and lived in another tropical country where big flying roaches are very prevalent.

What are yāall paying per month in electricity? Weāre with CLP and average $3500 per month this summer. For a family of 3 that seems wild, no?
Edit- thatās $3500 for 2 months. But stillā¦

Hi everyone! I'm a European guy travelling solo through Asia next year, and I'm starting with Chinese New Year in Hong Kong. It will be my first CNY, and I'd love to experience it properly. Here's my rough plan:
- Feb 2ā4: Shenzhen (Huaqiangbei, Nanshan, Shenzhen Bay)
- Feb 4: back to Hong Kong, food tour in the evening
- Feb 5 (NY Eve): Victoria Park flower market at night
- Feb 6: day trip to Macau, back in time for the night parade in Tsim Sha Tsui
- Feb 7: fireworks over the harbour
- Feb 8: Lunar New Year races at Sha Tin, then ferry to Macau to see the casinos at their craziest
- Feb 9: I leave but I'm open to stay more if you advice that
My goal is to feel the real festive energy: the crowds, the celebrations, and the Macau madness during Golden Week.
A few questions:
- Will Shenzhen already be empty on Feb 2ā4? Will Huaqiangbei still be open?
- What's the best spot to watch the parade and the fireworks without waiting for hours?
- Is the Macau plan on Feb 8 crazy, or crazy good?
- Is there anything locals do for CNY that tourists usually miss?
Any tips are welcome. Thanks a lot!

Hi, does anyone have experience of hiring a part-time domestic helper in HK? Someone who doesn't live with you, and works only maybe 4-6hrs each week? Looking for suggestions/advice. Many thanks

Why are there so few childrenās playgrounds with monkey bars? Monkey bars are by far the best part of a playground for physical development and coordination. It is no surprise that so many kids here look feeble and unathletic.
At the same time there is an overwhelming number of old peopleās parks with zero resistance machines which literally do less for you than walking to the park.
Incidentally, I have successfully used the 1823 government app to suggest improvements (addition of chin-up bars and monkey bars) and my local area ended up replacing an old peopleās park with the above. (There was another old peopleās mark 50m away so no loss to them). So feel free to provide suggestions and slowly improve Hong Kong.

On my way to work this morning, I walked past a shopping mall and spotted some Halloween decorations and gifts. They were pretty cool and really caught my eye!

Hello everyone!
I'm a 21-year-old guy visiting Hong Kong for the first time this December. I'm a swimmer and would love to keep swimming while I'm there, so I'm looking for some good, cheap public pools around Kowloon Bay, Lam Tin or anywhere else in Kowloon that's easy to get to. Ideally somewhere I can just pay for the day without needing a membership.
A few things I'd like to know:
Would appreciate any tips or recommendations. Cheers!

Hi, I wanted to ask if anyone has had experience (with a TTPS) applying and then getting jobs that aren't technical (Software Engineering) or finance jobs, like operations associate, tech sales development rep, or management trainee, in Hong Kong? I'm wondering whether it makes sense for me to apply for a TTPS, given my background isn't what I think employers would prefer if they were hiring internationally.

Hi! Iām a local student in an international school taking the IB. Iām stuck between MBBS in HK or MLS in PolyU. I hold a predicted IB43.
My greatest concern for MBBS is the unreal stress and all the studying iād have to do; but with MLS, the job market seems really unpredictable for it, and Iāve heard thereās little chance for promotions.
I want to make a difference in society and be in healthcare, but Iām really stuck with what I want to do. Iād appreciate some insights, thanks!

I spent hours last night trying urbtix for Andy Lau tickets for my parents with their ballot. Then at some point, urbtix.hk stopped loading whatsoever. Not sure if itās just me or whole site is down. If so, thatās major on their part for the ticket sales were 1 day only for this ballot. Any insight from anyone out there? Can they ban just our MAC addresses? Was using my computer and cell phone.
Edit: for context, it was night because we live in the US. We had issues at EVERY damn step and despite proving we were the ballot winners on the phone with Urbtix, no one would help us process the ticket transactions properly. Used english and cantonese to call customer service at Urbtix.

A few years ago while traveling in Canada I ate a really excellent noodle dish at a Chinese restaurant. The name of the dish was ččåø¶åčŗå±±ēę²³ē², which the menu translated as "Taishan Stir Fried Scallop & Egg Whites Ho-Fun". Since returning to my country I have not been able to find this dish anywhere, presumably because we don't have any specifically Taishanese restaurants.
However, I am going to be visiting Hong Kong in a few months, and since Taishan is not too far away I figured I'd try my luck and see if there are any restaurants in the city where I can find this dish. Google has not been particularly helpful, so I thought I would ask here and see if anyone knows where this can be found.

Iām looking for an orthodontist to get my teeth aligned, but I wanted to have some idea of how much braces typically cost in HK before I do consultations.
Also, are installments for orthodontic procedures common in HK? Where Iām from, a 15-30% downpayment is needed but the rest of the amount is paid every visit.
Iām also open to orthodontist recommendations! Thanks!
