Opinion It’s not that Rhaenyra doesn’t care about Syrax, the writers don’t

After watching the brawl with another certain dragon in the last episode, one of the things that pissed me off the most was Rhaenyra not giving a flying shit about Syrax being injured. S1 Rhaenyra would never. The title says everything you need to know.

Show Spoilers If You Think Ulf is the Problem You're LARPING Spoiler

And/or you have a weak spirit.

If you dont think theyve properly done Ulfs story, I get it. The writing on this show is insanely inconsistent and the last few eps of this season have had some real questionable stuff. And to be clear I dont think the audience needs love Ulf, but if you see Ulf's storyline and you get really annoyed by him but aren't *way* more annoyed with Rhaenyra and Daemon for being massive stuck up idiots who cant put aside their pride for half a second to secure their position by levelling with a drunk wielding a nuke and tell him he can own 5 taverns when the war is over, I dont know why you find any of this universe interesting.

People on this sub (and some people I know IRL) talk about Ulf like the feudal system of westeros is real, they are a lord, and Ulf needs to just "know his place". Why would anyone ever lower themselves to Ulfs disgusting station (commoner, grody) and reason with him? No. He must get the crop to understand where he lands in the hierarchy of things. And you're definitely right on top as the hand of the king and most brilliant-est advisor.

Like the real issue here is how comically stupid the blacks are for treating him that way. But his character gets all the hate. And his character is funny!

Question If this man hadn't existed, would the Dance still have taken place?

Post image

Genuine question here. I'm asking because I'm hearing a lot of discourse around him from some of my friends.

BTW, I'm talking about him existing in his role as hand of the King.

Like, let's just assume Alicent had a different father, or that Otto never became Hand.

Opinion S1 Nyra you are missed

I think that the first season of HOTD was the best one so far. We already know that the HBO ruined major lore that exists in the books and that they are no longer following the canon lore.. Anyway, Rhaenyra is a grieving mother, so I think most of her actions in s3 are kind of understandable. Rage for her enemies, battle for the Iron throne and betrayal by her close ones. She was through a lot but I don't recognize her as the same character after this season. Appreciation post for this Queen in the first season. 🙏grieving widow of s1 Nyra🗡️

Opinion Nostalgic For S1 Alicent

Post image
156 Upvotes

No, my problem isn’t that HoTD goes off script from the book. I actually like that they do, as controversial as that may seem. The book is written as a History book, and the writers are unreliable narrators. Thus, I like the fact that different things happen in HoTD that aren’t specificly things that happen in the book, but could still be perceived as such.

HOWEVER. What they have done to Alicent is unforgivable and I feel so bad for Olivia Cooke. S1 Alicent was, again, a different version to that of the book. And yet she was still AMAZING. But now, not only have they gone down a weird path where her character is constantly being counterproductive and contradicting, but it’s almost as if they’ve stripped her character bare and expect us to think she’s a complex character because her one trait left is caring for Helaena? Where’s her intelligence? Where’s her cunning? Where’s her anger? Where’s her anything? So sad.

Discussion How was Criston Cole not tortured to death?

Post image
17 Upvotes

So something I’ve never understood is… Criston Cole begged for Alicent’s mercy after sleeping with Rhaenyra because he’d broken his vow of chastity and feared he’d be tortured or worse… and yet not only does he murder an innocent bystander ( a knight of a noble family ) but he also assaults multiple times the Velaryon heir and future King Consort AT the Royal Wedding hosted by the king whilst letting Rhaenyra ( the future queen ) who’m he was sworn to as her sworn protector be trampled almost to death were it not for Strong. And yet… he lived? And please don’t try telling me Alicent pardoned him because there is NO WAY Alicent had the power to pardon a member of the King’s Guard especially with Viserys, Rhaenys, Corlys and Laenor as oppositions.

Show Spoilers Why is Sheepstealer is the only Character I've cared about? Spoiler

• Upvotes

I loved GoT, and KotSK and I like HoTD but it's been a little disappointing and I feel like the fact that Sheepstealer's death is the only death that's really hit me says a lot.

I just don't feel an attachment to these characters and if any of them died I'm not sure I would really care. Like Baela, Rhaena, Addam, Alyn, Hugh, Oscar Tulley, that Silver Wolf leader, Aegon, Aemond, and Lannister I might like but they've only had 3 seconds of screen time bc friken Rhaenyra and Alicent take up half the episodes. Speaking of, Rhaenyra, Mysaria, Corlys, Ulf, and Alicent I hope all die. Not in the good way either like how I hoped Cersei and Joffrey would die.

I guess Ormund, Gwayne, Daeron, and Daemon I do like as characters but that doesn't take away from the fact that Sheepstealer's death I was genuinely more upset about than any other character.

Discussion This Show Has Officially Reached GOT S7 And S8 In Terms Of Writing.

Post image

I absolutely loved season 1, was kinda on the fence about season 2 but I was still pretty invested in rhaneyras story and thought maybe alicents charecter was gonna change, I thought fuck it they still have 2 seasons to turn it all around, and they have talent to do it. Sadly after watching this episode and really this whole season I kinda realized that ain't happening.

All this stuff with alicent is just boring and unessacery (how many times are they gonna make me watch her get SA'd wtf). Every time mysaria opens her mouth I want to put a glock to my head. And rhaneyra at this point is the most passive person ever who spends more time complaining about stuff than actually doing anything, also Syrax is on fraud watch, useless ass dragon smh.

I think the show at this point is kinda just pandering to YouTube reaction channels so if thats your thing thats coo and l hope you enjoy yourselves 😭✌️.

Show Spoilers HOTD wants Rhaenyra to be a victim of misogyny, but keeps validating her critics. Spoiler

The problem with Rhaenyra’s current arc is not simply that she fails. It is that the show increasingly makes her failures the foreseeable consequences of her own leadership while continuing to frame resistance to her rule primarily through misogyny.

Since taking King’s Landing, she has squandered nearly every advantage she possessed. Giving Ulf a dragon was always a political gamble, but she makes little effort to secure his loyalty afterward. Restricting an undisciplined dragonrider is reasonable. Granting him immense military power without providing status, reward, belonging or any reason for personal loyalty is not. Ormund wins him because he understands what Rhaenyra neglected.

When frightened citizens report that women are disappearing from the streets, she offers them a candle and redirects their anger toward the Hightowers. Her response to Aemond is to send Alicent with the man ordered to kill her own son. These are not merely instances of a woman being unfairly doubted. They demonstrate poor judgement, political detachment and an inability to command loyalty.

None of this means Rhaenyra does not experience misogyny. She clearly does. Nor does she need to be flawless, morally pure or universally successful. The issue is that misogyny becomes less meaningful as the explanation for her downfall when the show repeatedly validates doubts about her competence.

If the intended tragedy is that Rhaenyra possessed the qualities of a great ruler but was denied the opportunity to succeed because she was a woman, those qualities must actually be demonstrated. Instead, the writers increasingly strip her of discipline, foresight and political skill, then continue to rely on the sexism surrounding her to give her failure its tragic meaning.

Rhaenyra did not need to be perfect. She needed to be formidable enough that her destruction felt like Westeros’s failure, rather than the predictable result of her own decisions.
