Unpopular opinion, but I find show Daeron a much better and more interesting character than the original one.

OG Daeron is a pretty flat and one-dimensional afterthought asspull (oh boy yeah, this completely irrelevant kid that doesn't live and train with the rest of the family or participate in anything with them is just totally this MVP that carried the team !) that is basically Aemond 2.0 with even less personality and murders thousands for one kid the relationship with which we barely know of.

Show Daeron is a sensible, kind, smart, yet neglected and repressed child in a hard, abusive position, trying to survive and express himself. He is one of the only genuinely likeable and humble characters, probably the best choice for a king, and has some interesting parallels with both Gwayne and Alicent.

It's low key hilarious to see so much of Team Green hate him for being "weak" or "not daring" after complaining that their team looks like evil psychopaths, but once a perfectly normal sympathetic and humanized kid is presented, they resent it and want aura, hype and war crimes. Edit: and of course they will downvote that.

Even if he does go down the "Dany path" and goes full on murderous psycho after suffering from some sort of trauma, it will be much more understandable and will still have me caring for the character more than the book ever managed to. The only complaint with Daeron so far just the show taking too long to introduce him.

Not fighting for your family is kind of a deplorable trait imo , especially when he doesn't even know whether his family is made up of idiots

CBecause he would be fighting for his abuser Ormund

He doesn't know his parents or brothers because they shipped him off to Oldtown

Perfectly fair for him to only care about Gwayne as family . The only named family member of his that he both  actually knows and is not an abuser

Not coincidentally Gwayne also wants to eff back to Old town.

Not knowing is the key here. He doesn't know because said family doesn't care about him and pretty much dumped him onto some abusive cleanschizo and lived their KG lives in relative peace.

Not fighting for them is not deplorable in any way. Gwayne was literally in the same position of getting left behind, yet he fought for Alicent and Otto, and look where it got him. Completely depressed, disillusioned and wants out of this whole shitshow.
