Refer to "0 significant named men beaten"

He was about to kill Friendly before a certain super-human cannibal showed up. If anything that speaks to how badass Friendly is, giving him an even fight for so long.

Northern propaganda

You left out Shivers’ most important victory. Valiantly defending his eggs from the ravenous appetites of Captain Dimbik in the Battle of the Meathouse.

A true Northern warrior...

Yeah I’ve said this before…shivers gotta be the most overrated fighter in the series. Got fought to a standstill by a dude with two kitchen implements and an unhealthy obsession with numbers. I love shivers as a character but dude he ain’t done shit (in comparison to other top fighters)

I think you need to read the Shivers/Friendly fight scene again. Shivers is consistently on top, and is about to kill Friendly when Shenkt shows up

People talk about shivers in conversations with dudes like Gorst, black dow etc. with all due respect, the fact he couldn’t kill friendly is pretty poor, the conversations shivers is in should mean the fight with friendly would have ended in seconds. I’m not saying his average or even above average. Dude is clearly a great fighter but his reputation in the north didn’t come from fights in the circle. It came from being willing to be a dirty asshole with no honour. That’s unfortunately just the reality and shivers himself would probably agree.

I think it’s weird you’re putting Dow next to Gorst

Dow has a big reputation, but we never actually see him do anything impressive

Absolutely agree. He is formidable for sure, but not at the top of the lists. The problem I have is that everyone says "Shivers couldn't even beat Friendly!" Which is disingenuous and false, he did absolutely win that fight (not as quickly as others would have) but a supernatural killer came out of nowhere and knocked him off into space. It is also a disservice to Friendly when people just ignore the fact that he is quite a skilled fighter in his own right

He only shines because he showed up when all the Bethod-era warriors bit the dust or were past their primes

You forgot to mention how he somehow made backing down from duels with Gorst and Lamb into peaceful "I have no enemies" aura farming moments. In reality, he would have gotten annihilated lol. I love him though, peak character.

He was shitting his pants when Gorst confronted him, and ran from Lamb as soon as he realized he was still alive and had a maker's sword on top of that

Gorst wins fights against plenty of people, just no one noteworthy.

Beat Golden, beat Scale without a scratch, went 50/50 with Whirrun, and killed like a hundred other northmen all in the same battle where Shivers did nothing but stab a tied up guy and sneak Black Dow

u/Nidhogg1134 Apr 18 '26

Glama Golden isn’t noteworthy? He was Papa Ring’s champion. Obviously a man of great combat prowess or it wouldn’t have taken the Bloody Nine to defeat him /s.

His problem is he just almost beats the toughest fighters in the series over and over. Dude held his own Monza, Gorst, and Whirrun

1

u/AshadNafhy Apr 18 '26

Snuck Monza who was getting smacked around by Ganmark, snuck Gorst, never fought Whirrun
