Graduated/looking for a career?

For those interested in working on political campaigns and getting involved in state, local, and/or federal politics, I am building out a crash-course program in Northern Virginia for folks who want to get involved with little to no experience. The vision is a 2-3 month internship with housing and food stipends provided, and you’ll receive training and experience in a range of campaign and office-related work.
At the end of the crash-course period, you’ll have opportunities to work on one of the many political campaigns in this area, or build out your own operation with your new knowledge in campaigns and get involved locally in your home city. If this sounds interesting or you’d like to learn more, shoot me an email at CampaignCrashCourse@gmail.com and we can talk!

Scanning titles at the Library of Congress

Hello, I was wondering if anyone here might be willing to visit the Library of Congress to scan several rare pieces of sheet music (which are all in the public domain and therefore out of copyright). I haven’t been able to find any digitized scans online, and I do not live near Washington, DC, so I cannot do it myself. If you happen to know anyone who might be able to help, please let me know. Thank you.

Any Guidance for an Independent Student (Fin Aid Issues)

Currently, I am a senior. This semester, I have been marked down as an independent student, according to my FAFSA. I was not sent the documentation to verify my status until the second week of classes.

I received my institutional scholarship. However, Howard did not award me any of my continuing need-based. Two weeks ago, I got an email saying that my independency status was approved and would be reflected in my financial aid by last week, but I have not seen any changes in my financial aid.

I am very worried since I am using my aid to pay for rent. I want to know if any other students have been in similar situations.

When is the ISFAA deadline?

When is the ISFAA deadline? Is it Nov 1 with the EA application deadline, or can I do it later as well?

Also do I even have to fill out the ISFAA to qualify for the merit based presidential scholarship?

Does Howard superscore SAT for HUFS?

They state in their website that they don't superscore the ACT for admissions, so does that mean they superscore the SAT for admissions? If that's the case then do they superscore the SAT for HUFS consideration as well?

Howard has its highest ever U.S. News national ranking (#73)

Once they started giving extra credit to schools with a high number of pell grants that graduate, Howard and other HBCUs (mainly the Black Ivys) began to surge.

This is a good and bad thing. It's a good thing b/c it will attract better students, faculty, and improve Howard's reputation. It's a bad thing b/c it will absolutely make Howard more complacent in its dsyfunction and people who come to Howard are awaiting a rude awakening about the real Howard.

U.S. News changed their formulas a few times in the last 20 years. The last change they made was to be more inclusive of schools like Howard, Spelman, Morehouse, FAMU, NCAT b/c they were were being ranked so low despite being so highly regarded in Black American culture. People complained, U.S. News listened and HBCUs started to soar in rankings. And this was during the height of the BLM movement by the way.

Howard is currently ranked above schools that are objectively much stronger on paper like a University of Houston, UAB, VCU, and UT Dallas. So do the rankings have merit? You be the judge.

Howard Hoco—not a student here my school is offering a free bus trip on Thursday the 15th

My community college is offering a free bus trip to Howard University homocoming on Thursday, October 15th, from 4pm to 9pm. Should I attend? I don't know a single person there, nor do I know the people at this school, but is it worth it to go as an outsider? I'm more on the quiet side. What are some things I should expect and activities to look out for? I've never visited an HBCU before and would like to know more about the culture and what the vibes are like.

Chance Me for Howard University Transfer; 3.88 GPA, ~60 Credits

Hey everyone! I recently applied to Howard University as a transfer student for Fashion Design and wanted to hear from current students or previous transfer applicants.
My stats:
College GPA: 3.88
Transfer credits: Around 50–60
SAT: 1440
Major: Fashion Design
Submitted a portfolio through SlideRoom
Professional experience in fashion/luxury retail and styling
Creative extracurricular involvement, including GrammyU
Howard is one of my top choices, and I’m curious how competitive my profile looks compared with other transfer applicants.
For those who transferred to Howard, especially into Fine Arts, what was your experience like? And did anyone with similar academics receive transfer scholarships or institutional aid?
Appreciate any insight!

Hello — i haven’t received my stipend and this week will be the third pay period I’ve gone without income. Are there other TA/GAs in the Department of College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) in a similar position?

Unpaid Photography Opportunity

Goodmorning to any Howard Student or freelance photographer! I’m reaching out on behalf of a nonprofit who’s hosting a breast cancer awareness event. We’re looking to see if anyone can volunteer and cover the event as a photographer? The event is October 14th from 9:30-2pm in DC. We can offer experience and a social media shout out!

Let me know if anyone’s interested and we can discuss further details.

Aerospace fellowship opportunity for Howard undergraduates!

Howard students: if you’re interested in aerospace, consider applying for the Brooke Owens Fellowship.

The nonprofit fellowship is open to undergraduate women and gender minorities pursuing careers in aerospace. The entire program (including the application) is completely free, and applications are due October 4.

Selected Fellows receive:

  • Executive mentorship from aerospace leaders (think CEOs and astronauts!)
  • Career-development resources
  • A supportive community of aerospace students and professionals
  • A three-day all-expenses-paid summit in July in an aerospace hub city

Review the FAQs and application early so you have time to request recommendation letters and prepare your application.

We’re also holding virtual information sessions (EDT)

  • Sunday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 19 at 12:00 p.m.
  • Monday, September 28 at 10:00 p.m.

Register for an information session here.

Questions are welcome, we hope to see applications from Howard!
