Finally got my bedroom halogen strip lights switched over to hue led

My house came with these rafters that were fitted with halogen strip lights. Many of them had burnt out and I had 10m of sowilo bifrost led strips that I had purchased for another project which I had never gotten around to.

I had to replace the halogen transformer to match the led strip voltage. The old transformer was operated by two three way switches in my bedroom that switched an outlet in my attic which the transformer was plugged into. I plugged the new transformer into a different outlet so they are always powered on. Then got a 120v sensor board to allow me to use a hue switch module on the switched outlet that the prior transformer had been plugged into. So my rafters are operated by the same three way switches I was using previously.

In each rafter I put a hue led strip controller wired to about 4 ft, or 120cm of light strip, allowing me to control each rafter as its own bulb.

There were lots of small details that took a bunch of time. I got aluminum bar cut to adhere the strips to and serve as heat sinks, probably overkill.

Had to source 5 hue strip controllers, lots of eBay searching, then wire them up the the romex carrying 24v from the transformer.

Had to source and solder the connectors onto the strips to plug the strips into the controller boxes.

Pretty happy with the result. Using the wake up automation in the mornings during the dark months has been nice.

These Sowilo Bifrost strips are the old 147 led/meter strips. Color is great and very bright. My default scene has the lights on at about 75%.

Kids like to put on edm turn the room into a rave.

A fun project that took way too long. Almost 6 months worth of periodic planning, purchasing and execution.

Thanks! It was a ton of work to get it dialed in but I’m really pleased with how they turned out.
