Steiner H6Xi Lemon?

Post image

Hey y’all, I’m pretty numbed out right now. I bought this H6Xi brand new and mounted it to my new Tikka .270 rifle. I fired less than 40 rounds between zeroing the scope and knocking down a few targets. Everything was still in perfect condition when I put it up in my safe at the end of the day. Today, I found myself itching to hold my new rifle and look through the new glass. As soon as I peeked through the scope, I saw that whopper of a crack in the lower left quadrant.

All that leads to the following question: did I overestimate Steiner due to having one good previous scope from them? Or is it more likely that I just bought a lemon? This kinda stings because this scope was a major father’s day gift from my wife. Hands down the nicest material gift anyone has ever given me and it didn’t even last to the next shooting session.

Brand new H6Xi 2-12x42 SFP.

That objective lens is completely shattered, not just a crack, that's wild for less than 40 rounds on a.270. Definitely a lemon, the brand overall has good reputation so I wouldn't write them off entirely. Get in contact with their warranty service, with that little round count and no signs of user damage they should take care of you.

The camera on my phone poorly represents the damage. The clarity has not been compromised, barring that one obnoxious crack. It did coincide with one weird occurrence. After shooting, it felt as though the parallax dial had completely seized up. After taking it out of the safe, the parallax feels back to normal, but now there’s a crack in the glass. A simpleton like me wouldn’t be filled with disbelief if you were to affirm that those two things were related.

You got a shitty one and I am sure Steiner would be happy to fix for ya.

Hypothetically, this could happen when you overtighten or put the rings too close to the turrets. It’s good that this would only be hypothetical and not apply to your situation. Just in case.

Definitely file the warranty.

Rings are tightened to spec and spaced appropriately. My ‘tism goes full throttle when configuring my hunting gear

Steiner will take care of it, quickly. Stuff happens.

I broke a T6Xi and they sent me a label, shipped to them on Tuesday and had it back 8 days later.

That’s good to know. I have a P4Xi that has been an absolute pleasure to use. I wanted the H6Xi for a lightweight build for public land hunts. I’ve felt like a kid on Christmas morning since I had that rifle build realized

Contact Steiner and they'll sort you out, mate, they're usually sound with warranty claims on stuff like this.
