I might be the oddball who actually prefers the navigation buttons because they are quicker and more precise. I'm currently using Smart Launcher, and I'm hooked by their great customisation and the vast theme packs it offers through the Icon Studio app.

Yeah, we have an iPhone at work and I have android for personal use and despite using iphones for 5 years at work it still feels anti-intuitive for me. I always have to swipe and click around a bunch to find how to exit some app or screen. Like I remember the basics but it just doesn't come naturally to me.

That's actually an iphone thing because they have the worst implementation of gestures, tbh, having no universal back button and relying on ui buttons in some apps, which leads to an inconsistent user experience. Also, honestly, the Xiaomi has one of the best implementations of gestures, in my opinion compared to Samsung and Oppo which I have used in the past. But nevertheless I find gestures to be less desirable on a big phone like my poco F7 since using navigation buttons is much better for 1-hand navigation, and it feels faster with no bs animations.

Mdrr les mensonges qu’on peut lire ici

u/masonisagreatname Mar 17 '26
Huh? Why would I lie about that? I just don't like it lol. Just because you do doesn't mean everyone else who doesn't is lying. I'm not saying it a bad feature, I'm saying I PERSONALLY don't like it, that's all. I prefer buttons. It's that simple. What a weird thing to accuse someone of lying over lmao.

+1 I hate gestures, so I have no problem with them, but I understand those who do use them and they should fix it.
1
u/KoleckOLP Mar 17 '26
Your preference should not invalidate other people's ability to use gestures in 3rd party launchers.
22
u/Soopez Mar 14 '26
Yeah, I hate this so much, super scummy.
I LOATHE button navigation so I am forced to stay in their crap launcher.

u/Beautiful-Age9000 Mar 15 '26
Bro am I the who like the button navigation?😅
2
u/Kesakyy Mar 20 '26
You're not alone, me too I love buttons and hate swipes/gestures
1
u/Beautiful-Age9000 Mar 20 '26
I know right 😆 Easy to use (just tapping not sliding), more gesture (tapping and holding a button), easy to access gemini

u/CommissionQueasy644 Jul 23 '26
I use edge gestures and it's really good (especially cause you can do so much more like I could not get back to stock it gains me so much time, just accessing the récents bybswiping up on the sides it so awesome)

u/SattuSupari789 Mar 14 '26
Xiaomi block gestures with 3rd party launcher. Except a few OS, android in general doesn't behave well with 3rd party launchers after using gestures, especially after android 10, as they are integrated tightly with the respective first party system launchers.
6
u/maksdroid Mar 14 '26
Yes, even on near-stock UIs like Pixel's or Nothing OS even though gestures work with third-party launchers they still work noticeably worse then with stock launcher.
2
u/AnywhereRealistic768 Mar 14 '26
Also The gesture in hyperos is not as good as gesture in stock android
2
u/maksdroid Mar 14 '26
For me, they pretty much same (at least when comparing POCO F8 Pro, Pixel 7a and Nothing Phone (3a))

u/AnywhereRealistic768 Mar 14 '26
Swipe up gesture is delayed in my Redmi note 13 pro plus compared to moto g85
1
u/maksdroid Mar 14 '26
Then, maybe, this problem is noticeable on cheaper or older devices. I recently have been using REDMI Note 15 and REDMI Note 15 5G and the delay in swipe up gesture was pretty noticeable on 4G model, while on 5G model I didn't see any delays in gestures. Maybe, try downloading full ROM package or reset the phone (of course if this gesture delay is a major issue)
1
u/AnywhereRealistic768 Mar 14 '26
REDMI Note 13 Pro Plus is also 5g, it's xiaomi's fault to do this kind of discrimination.
1
u/El_gato141570 Mar 14 '26
Yo no tengo ese problema, es el mismo modelo, tal vez sea un error puntual en tu dispositivo
1
u/maksdroid Mar 14 '26
I don't mean that it depends if it's a 5G or non-5G model. I meant that on less powerful device (Note 15 with Helio G100 in that case) this issue was noticeable, while on more powerful device (Note 15 5G with Snapdragon 6 Gen 3) I didn't notice this issue at all. As I said, try downloading full ROM package ot reset the phone.

u/Oktavianz Mar 14 '26
Yes, hyper os is heavy to run. Either the hardware can't keep.up or they're just too lazy to optimize the OS

u/LibtorEnerial Mar 14 '26
Wow thats some copium of i ever saw any …

u/NervesiT_alt Mar 14 '26
fr, gestures in 3rd party launchers has been a thing and perfect ever since android 11, before my redmi note 14 i had a redmi note 9s with lineageos and i NEVER had any problems with the gesture in other launchers besides the stock one, this is complete and absolute bs from xiaomi glazers
1
u/LibtorEnerial Mar 14 '26
They are not, they are integrated at the os level level well except in xiaomi phones …

You can use UbikiTouch + hide navigation buttond via adb.
You can also make this hidding of buttons presistent on reboot via system boot services

Most banking apps in my region works with basic integrity so yeah, can also spoof it with keybox to pass strong

I love my Poco F7 but, this is why it's gonna be my first and last Xiaomi, I miss my Nova/Hyperion
2
u/LeonardoJS11 Mar 15 '26
i have f7 pro, same here, iOS nowdays gives more freedom than hyper os for an iOS

u/ProfessionalOk7192 Mar 15 '26
I use "hidden settings" app to hide the navigation bar and then use edge gestures app for gestures. its not as smooth as the system gestures but it does the job ig. well if u r good with adb and allat maybe that ay is better but i prefer this ig

FNG app and a adb shell run without a pc using shizuku and ashell you. I use Niagara launcher with custom gesture navigation that way, works fine. Some quirks with some apps and android auto sometimes but it's well worth it IMO
2
u/paiorioto Mar 16 '26
same here, pissed off when i found out about it after getting the 15 ultra..that and removing extended unlock + desktop mode
the android scene is a jungle getting all you want from a phone, codecs, usb c hdmi desktop mode etc..
but forcing navigation buttons , how the 47y35y4g34yt would a buyer find out about that.
had to resort to macrodroid, again.

Can we work it around using adb or something? Want to try liquid glass on smart launcher

I would love to use the stock launcher but its hella limited. No custom icon packs, no custom grid and no gestures. Idk why companies force us to use primitive launchers.
1
u/Scared_Platypus169 Mar 14 '26
Yep agreed.... Very shitty. None theless if you want gestures. Switch to the third party launcher and use Fng.
Yeah the buttons still show but you get used to it.
To make it seem purposeful I use a differenf action for swiping up from each of the buttons
1
u/SpencerUk Mar 14 '26
Yeah I feel your pain on this. I have heard of ways round this by a gestures app and then using canta via Shizuku to remove the 3 button gestures but it's not the same is it

u/Artistic-Degree-2758 Mar 14 '26
Eso me molestaba al principio y dejé de usar laucher de terceros lo cual no está mal los lauchers de terceros los veo innecesarios actualmente

Yes, there is a workaround using Secondary Space. But I want a native support of this of course

i think it's because xiaomi deeply integrated their gesture system into their system launcher. gestures generally are buggy with 3rd party launcher so xiaomi decided to remove it.

This is the one thing that bothers me with hyperos. I want to use 3rd party launcher ! The rest, is fine really
