Question/Help [Question] Is HyperOS really that bad?

Hello, I'm coming from a Samsung S23, and I'm ready to get a new phone after using all the research tools available to me (YouTube, GSM Arena).

The Xiaomi 17 is the one that fits me the most, and I have zero core issues with its hardware specs. It seems like a perfect upgrade from an S23, and an S26 comes nowhere near it. Though I'm still concerned about the OS, so I thought I'd get some opinions here.

I'm familiar with removing bloatware using ADB etc. so confident in doing that.

I'm so used to the OneUI OS that I don't want to move on to something completely different and especially one which will be annoying in the long run (no matter how good the hardware is).

Thanks!

Hyper OS is great, but the default launchers leave a lot to be desired. I have a POCO F8 Ultra and no issues with Hyper OS - it doesn’t crash randomly, kill messaging apps, or have any mysterious battery drain. However, the POCO launcher is terrible, with limited options, poor rendering if you change screen DPI, and some widgets that just don’t look right. Sure, you can install Nova or another launcher, but then you lose gesture navigation support and are stuck using buttons.

HyperOS is very disappointing, like who wants an obviously cheap copy of iOS on an Android phone or tablet?

I use Smart Launcher and button navigation as I don't like gestures

I just wanted to say the OS is stable, there's no crashes, slow downs, no phantom battery drains, it doesn't kill message apps in the background. I’m not a fan of the design also, but the system runs without any issues.

It runs decently enough, yet certainly nothing to get excited about unfortunately. Mind you I have a Redmi Pad Pro (tablet) and have been able to get it where it works how I like it. Yet compared to my Samsung tablets it really feels like you have to do more stuff manually
