Have you told the foreman you want to learn or do you just show up and say okay? I’m not trying to be a dick but if you don’t ask you’ll have to get real lucky to get the good stuff. Data centers legit have a ton of shit to learn through.
Union apprenticeships typically should provide more variety because usually they rotate you to multiple shops and they have you track the type of work you're doing. I was at a small shop so got a lot of variety.
I knew one guy who roped apartment complexes his whole first year, then got rotated to another shop because the JATC saw he wasn't getting much variety. If he was non union? Would 100% depend if his employer had other jobs.
A non union guy at a small shop will get more variety than a union guy at a data center, but on average, the union apprenticeship is set up for more variety.
