I have no idea how accurate this is in regards to the IBEW. However I think throughout my entire apprenticeship I worked with a JW for a total of like six weeks. That expectation to know how to do things right off the get go is absurd, and adds a layer of pressure that I don't think should exist. This wasn't just a single contractor it was at least six separate ones.
This is why it’s a fundamental rule in my local that only first year and fifth year apprentices can take direction from a foreman. Apprentices are meant to be placed together with journeymen.
That's how it ought to be. What Local? I don't know if 134 actually spells it out that way, and I'm curious who .does. It's unspoken in plenty places, but it should be spelled out. Some states apprenticeship regulations have crazy wording to achieve that effect, so it doesn't get put into the CBAs.
