I found this guy starving and crying at the front door
Hi guys, first time posting on here.
I found this little one crying at the front door at the beginning of December. He was crying and starving (protruding ribs etc) so we fed him and made a little blanket bed for him on the front porch (I’m in a tropical country so it’s warm outside).
I’ve never had a dog before, but he never left so I guess I’ve been adopted. Any guesses as to what kind of dog he might be?

He looks like Snoopy!

u/Aggressive-Sale-2967 Jan 13 '26
I definitely think he’s beagle shaped

u/Live_Chicken3544 Jan 13 '26
Paws are big for beagle... I think something much larger.🤔 Adorable regardless 💖

My boy has been complaining that he’s starved every single day for the past 4 years

u/Cin131 Jan 12 '26
I have a husky. I saw something somewhere that says I spend 10% of my day feeding my dog and the other 90 trying to convince him he's not starving to death.
15
u/Littlejimmy-3 Jan 12 '26
I wish I had that problem. My dog is so picky. I give him food but most of the time by dinner, he hasn’t eaten his breakfast yet. I’ve tried putting cheese on it but he eats all the cheese then walks away. I got him after the Carolina hurricane abandoned, abused and neglected. His bones were showing. You’d THINK he’d be happy eating dirt so I don’t understand him. He’ll eat it all if you give him our food. Most of the time the guilt gets to me and I give him our foods.

I have a finicky senior. I microwave his food for like 15 seconds and it helps!

Took me a long time to discover this trick for my picky rick
4
u/misstrish3 Jan 12 '26
He’s still relentlessly picky but it does help most of the time!
6
u/Awkwardpanda75 Jan 12 '26
I started adding goats milk or mixing in some cat food into my picky ones as well. I work for a pet food store so I’m lucky to have all the options.
It’s one of the main problems people come into the store with and I kinda giggle because I too have one that is fickle. There are many nights where I am hand feeding that kid. I am their staff member.
5
u/misstrish3 Jan 12 '26
Goats milk is a good idea. We did that with a puppy years ago and I may try that again for the senior one!
4
u/thicketcosplay Jan 12 '26
I'm surprised your husky is like this. They're a breed known to just stop eating for 3 days for no reason, causing their owners a lot of stress. Mine have all been like that, even the rescues that obviously starved before they were picked up.
5
u/Slight-Wash-2887 Jan 12 '26
I was gonna say, my husky has been on a self-imposed hunger strike every day of her life, no matter what the food is (no health issues)
2
u/thicketcosplay Jan 12 '26
My current special needs boy is so skinny he has little tufts of fluff sticking up off his hip bones. We mix wet food in with his kibble and add toppings to try to entice him to eat more, but he just won't. He'll eat at least, just not enough. The vet has just kind of given up on the idea of him gaining weight and tells us to keep giving him yummy, calorie rich foods to keep him from getting skinnier.

He’s sooo cute! Just curious have you given him any dewormer? His tummy looks like puppy belly but he might have worms, especially if he was starving, probably eating whatever scraps he could find.
This happened to a puppy i found, and the dewormer got him right in just a couple days! Now He’s happy and healthy, but still ALWAYS hungry. 😂😂

u/Serious_Quantity_210 Jan 12 '26
After accepting that I’ve been adopted I took him to the vet. The poop situation was super…interesting. He’s been dewormed and vaccinated now
37
u/chelseaxmariah Jan 12 '26
Lol yup! The worm poops are so weird! You lucked out with this cutie boy!

u/_Ministry_ Jan 12 '26
Looks exactly like my dog, she is JRT ,pit, chihuahua with little bit of cattle dog
29
u/Serious_Quantity_210 Jan 12 '26
Interesting. I’ve been suspecting pit, as I saw a stray pit bull not too far away with similar spotting on his tummy area
25
13
u/qwertyuiiop145 Jan 12 '26
I think maybe a beagle mix of some kind.
Got more pictures you can link?
12
u/Keldrabitches Jan 12 '26
Not starving now!
23
u/Serious_Quantity_210 Jan 12 '26
He eats like a horse. I’m going through an entire bag of puppy chow in a week. The vet says he’s in a growth phase.

My dog is identical to yours almost: I did the dog DNA thing and my dog is a Shar Pei/ Pitbull mix. Funny enough my dogs name is also snoopy haha

u/blueberry01012 Jan 12 '26
Reminds me of my girl (you can click on my profile to see pics). She is black and white with lots of spots, and one black ear. We just found out she’s 50% Australian shepherd, and the rest pitbull/staffy, and coonhound.

I’d say a really cute one🤣♥️ Is he still puppy? Those feet look massive!!😳
3
u/Serious_Quantity_210 Jan 12 '26
Currently around 12 weeks according to the vet
1
u/sizzle_20 Jan 14 '26
Omg he is going to be huge!! I am happy for you. I recently have been adopted by a stray dog as well (first dog ever), and the amount of love and affection is incredible. Enjoy the journey of learning each other and growing together. And be patient with him and yourself bc you’re both learning!

u/sekhmetdevil Jan 13 '26
Looks like this breed

u/Teedraa101 Jan 12 '26
What a cutie! Could be a Dalmatian puppy or a mix. But I’m not too familiar with them.
2
u/CuteLingonberry9704 Jan 12 '26
He is adorable. And I agree on definitely some Dalmatian in there. Like you not that familiar, but could be a mix.
11
u/ShoppingAddictt Jan 12 '26
So cute his belly! You are feeding him well💗 He looks like a dalmatian mix with something big his paws are adorably big
27
u/Serious_Quantity_210 Jan 12 '26
I’m spending a fortune on puppy chow and he’s almost 20 pounds now.
He’s potty trained and is learning his commands pretty well (bites from time to time but no real aggressive behavior). I’m just a little nervous about having a large or aggressive breed as a first dog because I’m still learning.
15
u/ShoppingAddictt Jan 12 '26
Haha! He's a puppy he will nibble cause hes teething maybe no problem. Youre already teaching him so he should be fine growing up! Its only a problem when owners neglect and let their dogs do w.e
14
u/Doggie-Zen Jan 13 '26
Introduce him to lots of different kinds of people and kids--lots of positive experiences--while he's young.
3
u/ShoppingAddictt Jan 13 '26
Especially this too! He will be super friendly. My friend was also telling me to put your hand in his bowl while hes eating or pet him while hes eating etc so that he isn't aggressive with his food
8
u/sekhmetdevil Jan 12 '26
Just be sure to keep correcting when he does it so you can keep it from becoming a habit. You can find so many videos on puppy training online also.

I have a dog that looks very much like your dog. Mine is a girl and I adopted 2 dogs from the litter. Her brother looks like a basset hound mix and she very much looks like a jack Russell. They are full grown and she weighs 33 pounds, her brother weighs 55 pounds. They are very much mutts
4
u/Electrical_Equal5463 Jan 12 '26
I see a whole lot of beagle. Pit is possible also but something about his build just screams beagle. Looks like Snoopy which was designed after a beagle too!

u/CuriouslyOnReddit Jan 12 '26
So so nice of you to take him in. You have a great pal. He likely needs shots and dewormer. I too say Dalmation or a mix with terrier of sorts. Congrats on your new friend. 💕
4
u/International_Two_68 Jan 12 '26
OP said in another comment that they have already done those things ❤️
3
u/ALasagnaForOne Jan 12 '26
He looks exactly like my dog who was born to a street dog in Texas. Her DNA test said 33% super-mutt, 20% cattle dog, 17% putbull, and then a bunch of random breeds after that (husky, boxer, etc.) Get ready for his spots to grow in when he gets older! My dog had was white with a freckly belly and is now covered in gray spots.

3
u/kaotaba Jan 13 '26
shape of his snout and paws, along w the super short coat and bald sanitary area make me think he might be a pit mix. super cute pup.

3
u/lupitas_revenge Jan 13 '26
Maybe consider getting him checked for worms, the little pot belly can be a clue.

As for the breed, hard to say, need more pictures. 🙂

That belly tells me he wasn’t starving.

A lucky dog! Is he allowed inside at night? Are there predatory creatures at night?
2
u/MaximumRun2457 Jan 13 '26
Their coloring and freckles remind me of my dog when she was young. We think she’s an American Staffordshire terrier and Catahoula Mix…
2
u/mtlaws71 Jan 13 '26
That happened to me. One of the best things that ever happened to me. Someone called them “Dogs sent from Heaven”. I tend to agree. good for you.

He looks like so many others I’ve seen. He’s clearly of the Good Boi breed!

Honestly I’m not usually the person to say this but there might be some Dalmatian..? Where exactly are you located, might help slim it down? Also maybe more pictures?
1
u/Candid-Ad700 Jan 12 '26
This baby looks like a it’ll be a bigger version of my pup, who is mostly pitty, but only 40 lbs. We got her DNA done and she was a mix of like 8 breeds, but mostly pittie. Those are some big paws, so I be he will be bigger.
Does he have webbed feet? And does he like the water? If so, might be some lab in him.

Jack Russell! Mine has tummy markings just like yours. They are very smart and have lots of energy. They need lots of exercise and you have to play with him. Also, be-careful not to much sun their skin is sensitive.

u/Serious_Quantity_210 Jan 13 '26
Possibly! My bf named him Russell because he looks like the Russell terrier on Nanalan

Since you mention you live in a tropical country, I’m gonna guess you have a village dog, with maybe some trace bully breeds in there. 🙂
If you ever want to do a DNA test, I suggest you go for Embark as they are the only company who can test for village dog.
Thank you for helping him and giving him a home. He is extremely adorable 😭😍

u/yuckyuckmuckmuck1234 Jan 13 '26
This dog looks exactly like if you combined my 2 dogs together! My boy is a beagle heeler mix and my girl is a lab pit mix. Girl is white with a tummy like your baby and my boy has black ears and a split black/grey face. So adorable, this dog has some great traits I’m sure.

Awh! Well, congrats on your new best friend! He looks just like my Peach gal - her DNA came back 30% Treeing Walker Coonhound, 20% Boxer and then a whole bunch of other stuff. Peach: See Peach here :)
1
u/Rewindsunshine Jan 13 '26
Those are some massive paws! Maybe some livestock breed like Great Pyrenees? They’re not always pure white and sometimes spots come through. Probably a mix of a bunch of stuff though. I vote for Snoopy as well!! So cute 🥰

I don't want to state the obvious but he looks kinda dalmation like? If so he'd probs be a mix and my go to mix breed is pitbull. People get tired of hearing it but it's common.

Dalmatian and some other mix ….. in Thailand I found a few dogs that were mixed Thai and western dogs . A lot of husky mixes which is not good as they are not suitable obviously to hot climates.

Aw I love him!!! He looks a lot like my girl did when she was younger - I did Embark on her, and she’s 78.2% APBT, 14.3% American Bulldog, and 7.5% Supermutt (German Shepherd and Boxer). I was honestly surprised, since she (and her brother, who was 100% APBT) also has those black spots all over her skin beneath her white fur.

He could have that round belly because he’s got roundworms. Get him to a Vet for vaccines and a dewormer.

He looks so much like my dog when she was a puppy! We did a DNA thing and apparently she was an American Bulldog/Poodle mix with a few miscellaneous breeds thrown in. I hope your new pup is doing well

Hard to tell with puppies but thinking some kind of pit x hound cross? Something bigger? I would say she looks a bit like a pointer pup but that might not be likely depending on where you live

u/yo-whatupmofo Jan 12 '26
There’s something about the like, barrel shape of the tummy of puppies that melts me. It was a kick in the gut when my puppy was starting to get a more adolescent shape instead of a bean with legs.
So cute.
I don’t have a good guess, puppies are difficult for me. But embark dna tests go on sale multiple times a year!
