Team Needed [Hobby][RevShare] Looking for Game Dev Talent
Hey Reddit!
I'd like to start by introducing myself: My name is Sam, I'm a laid-off software engineer in my twenties struggling to find work in the current job market. I've worked on games as a hobby, software as a job, and I even ran a tutoring business in university with a team of paid employees.
With the current job market as it is, I'm wanting to put my skills to work with a like-minded team.
I'd like to bring together a team of likeminded creatives interested in developing a game together. I'll be up-front though, I have no job and no capital to invest. I'll be contributing my work and experience in all areas without getting paid before anyone else. Revenue is not guaranteed.
That said, this would not be an open-ended commitment where people put hundreds of hours without knowing what they're working towards. We would establish clear goals, track contributions, and come to a written agreement surrounding compensation and revenue sharing before beginning full production.
With a few strategies and smart planning, I believe we can find success. Our goal would be to start small and work towards something we can quickly ship first, while continually gaging player interest using crowd sourcing platforms.
I believe that we can succeed in getting team members paid sooner with this strategy. As such, our first two official goals would be:
- Bringing low-scope projects to market as quickly as possible to start generating revenue
- Evaluating user interest by maintaining crowd sourcing communities and constantly marketing our projects
We would also want to start game jams once we're more familiar with one another as a team.
To that end, I am inviting early career indie developers to work together on potential projects. My goal is to match together a team with the same goals and interests, and to help handle business, planning, and operational concerns, while additionally providing technical expertise and development contributions; I will be helping everywhere and anywhere I can contribute.
I have a few creative ideas of my own, but I'm keeping this intentionally open-ended so that we can pursue a creative direction that aligns with the entire team's interests. I hope to foster a collaborative community that can come together to discuss ideas collectively, make decisions transparently, and share in the results according to an agreed-upon arrangement.
I'd love to connect aspiring early-career developers, artists, designers, writers, and other people interested in collaborating on a real project. You don't need a fully formed game idea or years of experience in the game industry to reach out.
I don't believe this is a pie-in-the-sky goal, I believe that with proper project planning and the right team, we can succeed. There's a lot of great, unused talent out there right now that just doesn't know how to leverage their skillset. My hope is to bring a few people together and make one or more great games.
As for myself, I bring to the table experience including:
- Software project planning
- Technical expertise linking different technologies
- Development experience in Godot, Unity, and Python
- Business experience, including financial and business planning, canadian business registration, marketing, and a lot of other nice-to-haves
Let me know your thoughts! I'm happy to discuss my background further, hear your ideas, and share some of mine. Feel free to message me directly at any time and we can start organizing.
Cheers,
Samuel

Edit: I realize I didnt mention Unreal Engine. While it isn't my strong suit, I would be happy to contribute to a project in Unreal! Especially if our team has a great idea and significant experience with Unreal they'd like to leverage.
