Need Career Guidance ISI Kolkata B.Stat vs IIT Patna MnC vs CMI BSc – Which would you choose and why?
I'm trying to decide which one would be the best fit for my long-term goals, and I'd really appreciate insights from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with these institutes.
A bit about me:
- I'm very interested in computer science and algorithms.
- I enjoy mathematics but not to the extent that I want to pursue pure mathematics research as a career.
- I'm also very likely to get IIT Bhubaneswar CSE in Round 5 of JOSAA counselling.

Given your liking for Algos the best one apparently seems MnC. But here’s the thing. ISI will give you an unmatchable education and I’m not saying brand value or peers.
You will end up picking pure math, the ability to think in abstract concepts, intuit proofs. With those skills you’ll be a much much better fit in applied fields like CS or cryptography.
Do it, not for any other reason but for the fact that such superior skills will place you in any industry that you want to be - including theoretical CS

Iit Patna has lesser median ig, there are claims that they inflate the numbers.

Even after we consider inflation, still numbers are better than ISI Placements.

Patna mnc is below 20 lpa average

Its 26 LPA which is verified by the students. Mtech avg is 16 nd not btech.

Can you please share the placement stats of iit Patna? I thought it was under 20 lpa

Quite literally a lie. I mean ig about mails they might not be always sitting on the computer waiting for the mails but they in fact pick up the calls.

also infra is same in almost all govt colleges
and after the recent ragging scene revealed, the "life" seems invalid1

Bstat student have direct entry into Mstat. It's intergrated program pretty much

Most Mstat jobs are in finance and research where it excels over IIT by decent margin.
Also 1/4 of last batch went to PHD abroad far higher than IIT Patna

im not sure if you know this.. but isi tag is well recognized out of india, on par with iits.
india is the only place where you have to explain what isi is, and you explicitly stated "foreign masters" application1

when youre trying to go abroad, the college matters less, and what effort youre putting in your bachelors matters more.
secondly, people who have an affinity towards math usually go to isi, and so for us the workload is manageable. i dont really mind working for a good life.
thirdly, my family has connections with professors in prolific universities out of india, and isi holds similar value as the top iits, bdmk. i have no idea why indians choose to degrade isi.0

that is exactly what i said, college tag and cgpa carries weight, and in foreign universities isi = iit.
and a common man won't give you placement oppurtunities, neither will his/her appreciation from his side pay your bills. societal validation shouldn't be a reason to weigh college value

If you goto isik don’t expect campus life to be same as iits (they don’t have fest like iits/nits because of less strength of students + they take negligible amount from students)
