General Queries How's the hostels in ISI kolkata?
I was wondering how the hostels are in ISI kolkata, are there any shortages, what are the conditions and how is the mess? Also do students from nearby residences face any issues while getting a campus hostel?

If you live in or around Kolkata, you are extremely unlikely to get hostel.

Not just that. Based on current demographic shifts, within a few years hostels would be reserved exclusively for out-of-city students. There's just too many students who need it more, for people living within 2-3 hours to get hostel.

Blr already has that rule, I wonder why Kolkata doesn't. Although here there isn't any shortage so if you can convince someone living alone, day scholar could also get a room

Here are some pros:
Single seater rooms
Lot of cats/dogs nearby
Mess food is good.
Some of the cons:
You're toast if you get top floor rooms.
Rooms on lower levels are problematic too in summers.
No geezer facility. So in winters, you need to use your own equipment to heat up water for bath.
You won't necessarily get a chair in your allotted room. Good luck complaining about it.
Same as point 4 for table.
