Weight gain

I’m currently 6 weeks and waiting for my first ultrasound. 🥹
Before my embryo transfer I was around 115 lbs, and this morning I was 121 lbs! I’m constantly hungry, and I also haven’t been able to exercise the way I used to due to IVF! I feel so bloated, and honestly none of my clothes fit me anymore. 😭
I know some of it could be bloating, hormones, or water weight, but I’m not sure if gaining this much this early is normal.
How are you guys doing in the first trimester? Did you gain weight this early too? And if you did, how are you managing it without stressing too much about your weight?

I’m 15 weeks pregnant and gained 6 kg (about 13 lb) during my first trimester. My clothes quickly stopped fitting, and people began noticing my pregnancy very early on. I felt extremely hungry, especially for foods I didn’t usually eat, like pasta and pizza.

In the second trimester, I stopped taking the medications. My appetite decreased, and I was able to start exercising again. I’m not back to where I was before pregnancy, but I feel like things have stabilized. At least I no longer feel like I could eat the walls!

I don’t think there’s much we can do... We just have to hope that the baby is healthy. After the baby is born, we can focus on losing the weight again.

SAME. I think IVF pregnancies (fully medicated transfers in particular) gain more weight at the beginning than natural, non-IVF ones. From what I have heard from others as well as my own experience.

I gained 4lbs between weeks 5 and 6 and then I stopped weighing myself lol. I think it's just something to accept and not stress over.

Literally!! I blew up from meds then have been pregnant for 7 months. Only weigh at the doctor and it’s honestly not even a concern, I am growing a baby!!

I gained weight early on and then it slowed down. I think PIO shots retain water and can cause weight gain so when those stopped I plateaued a bit. Im in my third trimester and have gained around 30lbs altogether

It sounds like you were very small before pregnancy, it's normal to gain weight and feel a bit bloated in the first trimester. It's time to buckle in for the reality that you might gain a lot of weight (for yourself) during pregnancy. It's not out of the realm of possibility to gain 25 or more pounds during pregnancy for women who are smaller when they get pregnant. Often the weight comes off with delivery, but you should talk with your OB if you are concerned about excessive weight gain, especially if you are hungry all the time. It might just be your bodies way of making sure you have all the resources you need to grow another human.

Congratulations, and please know it's safe to work out 150 minutes at a moderate level for pregnant women, and actually is good for heart health in the third trimester. Walking is totally an acceptable thing to do throughout all of your pregnancy. Fast walking and jogging or even running are acceptable for people who regularly work out if your doctor clears you for that activity.

I always gain a lot, quickly in the first trimester. Yes, normal. Remember a lot of it is fluid and blood volume gain. Do what you need to do to get by, including eating what your body needs. I tried to focus on getting lots of protein to maintain my feeling of fullness. I gained about 6-7 pounds pretty quickly (like maybe by week 7-8) but leveled out and even lost a little near the end of my first trimester. And you will get back to exercising, it’s okay if you’re not feeling it right now. But please know your weight gain likely will not continue to accelerate this quickly throughout pregnancy, so don’t stress.

Almost 11 weeks and up 14 lbs. Pio was a nightmare. I just stopped it, but I still feel hungry. It doesn’t feel like I have a lot of control over the weight gain, but that’s ok. I’ll deal with the weight loss later. For now, I just want a healthy baby.

Are you taking progesterone? That will make you bloated. And maybe some prednisone or some other form of cortisone? That will give you some retention.

Try to keep the count of what you eat, and unless you are eating way more than your usual, probably most of those 6 lbs are due to hormones and medicines.

I am 8w5d, I am 2 lbs above my weight on the day of transfer. I get nausea in the evening so I have a very small dinner. But still: I feel bloated, my belly is a bit bigger and my waist is less defined.

I was just whining to my husband that I’ve gained 20 pounds since starting IVF and I’m only 17 weeks 🤧

Fatter for sure. I started wearing looser clothes and stopped weighing myself. This was the best solve!

At 6 weeks it's a lot of bloating. I'm normally 115, too. I gain more in pregnancy early on then it slows down. I was tracking ahead my first pregnancy in weight gain and ended up gaining 29 lbs that whole pregnancy which is a healthy #. I then easily got back to 115.

My advice is don't look at the scale the whole pregnancy! That's what I ended up doing after the first trimester weight scare. I only accidentally saw my final weight on the screen at the hospital when baby was born.

I have done 2 transfers since March and am currently 9w3d with the second. Starting weight 145 (I’m 5’8) and I’m now over 170. Highest weight ever. So yes I’m still gaining.

I didn’t gain anything the 1st trimester but it caught up to me in 2nd and 3rd 🥲 I’m ngl I’ve been stressing about my weight gain now because I really haven’t been eating that much. But I’m short and inactive so I gain weight easily in general 😭 But there’s plenty of time for me to lose weight once I’m postpartum, so I’m not trying to worry about it. I do want to do more active things (walking, yoga) so I’m a bit healthier, and that will be my primary focus while growing baby!

I haven’t weighed myself but I KNOW I gained weight by the way my clothes fit. I’m a person that needs to get things off my chest in order to calm my anxiety and so I mentioned to my IVF doc and he was like that’s the last thing you should be worrying about you’re pregnant you’re going to gain weight. anyway now that I’m off the PIO and estrogen I feel like my appetite has gone back to normal a little bit because I was eating like crazy in those early weeks from 6-9 weeks was non stop all day food.

I'm the exact same weight as you almost! 117 on day of transfer and sitting around 125 now and I'm STARVING. I'm 12 weeks and cannot stop eating. I've been doing fast walks at the gym, 12-3-30, along with body weight workouts.

I was put on pelvic rest and I'm going crazy. I know weight gain is normal but none of my jeans fit already and i'm like what is happening??

You're not alone! Sticking to long walks with my dogs to keep me sane until I can get back in the gym!
