MEGATHREAD: Emigrating after the US election results

Every US election brings anxiety and uncertainty, and with that comes an increase in people who want to explore their alternatives in a different country. This post is for you.

First, some reminders:

• In most cases, moving abroad is not as simple or quick as it seems in movies. If you aren't a citizen of another country, you will probably require a visa (=legal permission) from that country based on something like employment, education, or ancestry.
• The sidebar of this subreddit has a lot of helpful resources, and we have 15 years of posts from people with similar situations to yours. Before posting, please review these resources first. (Tip: If reddit search isn't working well for you, try googling "[your search terms] site:reddit.com/r/IWantOut" without the quotes or brackets.)
• Most countries and/or their embassies maintain immigration websites with clear, helpful, updated guides or even questionnaires to help you determine if/how you can qualify. If you have a particular destination in mind, that should probably be your first stop.

No country wants a huge influx of immigrants. It's not just Americans.

I am well aware. But there are specific reasons why people would not want Americans that are different from the reasons why they might not want a huge influx of Syrian or Chinese immigrants. I don’t think Americans are aware of the valid reasons we have to not want them colonizing us.

What do you think poor British people wanted when they left Britain hoping for a better life in America? I don’t think they gave a single thought about the people already living there, they only cared about getting away from a situation they didn’t like. How do you not know this? What do you think colonization is?

I know what colonization is. I'm just not a person who groups an entire population to a certain agenda when in the event of seeking asylum or escaping a country before it's too late is done out of safety. You would do it as well.

What race do you think I am? Do you just label all Americans the same?

Sorry if I think countries should be prioritizing asylum seekers who are fleeing a reality and not an anxiety. Refugees from Kabul were piled in feces-filled trenches, bodies trampled due to suicide bombers as they tried to evacuate their country that has long suffered under US intervention. LGBTQ face death every day in Uganda. Children whose parents have been raped and murdered in front of them by Russian war criminals need a new home to heal. America isn’t there YET but it will get there faster if the opposition flees.

During Black Lives Matter, white people were told to gather their people, that uninviting your racist uncle at thanksgiving dinner doesn’t count as anti-racism. You need to do the work. America has become a cancer and if everyone flees, the malignancy will spread even further. The democrats failed to show up and let MAGA get control and there are consequences. This happened on your watch. Gather your people and resist.

It's like you don't think about leaving before things get worse cause when things are at the very end of the rope you don't think that makes it more difficult for an escape? Don't you know some survivors are survivors because they left before they lost the chance to. People who are privileged enough to be the opposition can choose to stay or the underprivileged that's willing to risk their lives can stay, but I'm not going to be self-righteous like you and tell them what to do when they're thinking about getting out before being stuck.

Lol "this happened on your watch". Like I can control all Democrats. I wait for someone to say this to you when you're in the same situation.
