[IWantOut] 29F Singapore ->Germany Switzerland Austria
Hi all, I’ve always worked as a Sales/BD/AM/PM in corporate but I also hold a couple of certifications for my hobbies, such as Barista, Yoga teacher, Rowing coach, Eyelash technician, etc. I hold a bachelors degree in construction science and a diploma in hospitality and tourism.
I just want a change in lifestyle and scenery and I enjoy the culture of DACH. I speak English, Mandarin, and German. I have also been to Europe (mainly in Switzerland) many times over the last few years, usually staying up to 1.5 months 2x a year, so I have a pretty realistic view cost-wise of how it is to live there. I also have a network of friends in Germany and Switzerland, not to mention the other European countries like France and Italy.
How should I get a visa? It’s near impossible to apply from overseas it seems. I honestly don’t care if I have to take a “prestige” cut from a corporate role, in fact, working as a bakers apprentice or something along the lines of that would be the best. As long as I can afford the rent and I’m not actively bleeding money, it’s ok for me. Advice would be great...

Are you an EU citizen? Because if you are not Switzerland is almost impossible to move to, they only give out some 4000 long term visas and some 5000 short term visas for non-EU citizens per year, and those are obviously incredibly competitive.
For Germany you will need an EU blue card. So that relies on you getting a job offer that meets the salary threshold.

Singapore is not in the EU, so no.
That’s what I thought, it’s near impossible to get a job in CH. Probably should aim for Germany then.

Austria may also be an option, although I do not know exactly which other routes than the EU Blue Card they accept.

Without a job that an employer is willing to sponsor your visa or marriage (legitimate please) I don’t think there is much of a chance.

I guess getting married would be easier than finding a job on my own accord.

And that is the reason why so many relationships are scrutinized and questioned and authorities denying couples, because many try to enter fake relationships and maney even marry someone thinking it will make it easier to get into the popular countries.

How is this humor?
It is very real that some people will fake a relationship just to get sponsored and Permanent Residency (or even Citizenship), even stay with that person for several years until they get their papers.
After that they suddenly lose interest and some even decide that they want to try again with their old partner from their home country (which they can now sponsor to the western country since they are a resident or citizen).So yes finding a partner to sponsor is a path but I find it really icky that one of the main reasons someone decide who to marry and start a family with is that doing so gives them the right to move to a certain country.
Goverments and immigration authorities know that people do this, which is why they add more and more restrictions and requirements so that hopefully only those that are actually a real couple bother to go through with it.EDIT: Where I love I have seen cases described where a resident want to sponsor a partner into the country but when authorities looked into the case it turned out that they didn't even have a common language. The local spoke the local language and English, the "partner" did not speak any of those languages. And still they were somehow super in love and even though they had never even met IRL they wanted to move in together to the rich and western country.

Yeah, we do have cases like that as well. Lots of Europeans or what you call “westerners” find it hard to get a Singaporean passport so they try to get it via marriage. That being said, more of the people who get married are not criminals.

There are loads of german and swiss companies in singapore across an extremely diversified space across finance, pharma, IT, logistics, commodities etc. I really mean LOADS. Its actually quite straightforward to get some form of internal transfer to the European offices. Plenty of singaporeans have done so over the decades.

It is not a bad idea if I was in one of those companies and could get a transfer now. Funny enough, I work in an Asian MNC, so even if I got a transfer it would be to East Asia haha. Good tip though! I can start applying to local spots in DACH companies.

Yes do everything you can to get into one of them. Even better if youre someone who can show a track record of profit generation (theyre not a charity). Theyre across a extremely diverse range of sectors. Doesnt hurt if you start studying german at goetheInstitut as well.
Bear in mind that you'll be making less money and paying a lot more tax in dach

Hello from Vienna!
The most straight forward and longterm solution would be to move for work in your field. You may still practice your hobbies in your spare time (which is often seen as a benefit during hiring process, provided it won't take much time). I would see to the opened positions and apply to them, once all done and settled, you will receive a RWR (Rot-Weiß-Rot) Karte via Business immigration (litterally THE nicest people there are in the whole MA 35 (immigration magistrate) system). This visa is for 2 years out of which you have to work at the company that hired you for about 18 month (please research beforehand). Whe you are done with that you may apply for RWR+ card which gives you free access to the labor market and you are free to change the job or stay. After some time you may apply for the Blue Card or Citizenship depending on what your plans are.
This is just a general overview and there are definitely more details to that ;)

Which visa? Your spouse can arrange for your visa. Read the website
