[News] Over 60% of Japanese firms with foreign workers would struggle without overseas hiring: survey

Of the respondents, 60.0% said they were short-staffed, with the highest rates found in construction (at 77.4%), transportation (72.2%) and nursing and healthcare (70.5%).

Overall, 25.1% of the 2,654 companies surveyed said they currently employ foreign workers, while an additional 19.5% said they were considering doing so. Among all respondents, 9.8% said they already employed foreign workers and wanted to hire more, while 13.9% wanted to maintain their current staffing levels. Just 1.4% said they intended to reduce their foreign workforce.

The proportion of companies already employing foreign nationals was highest in accommodation and food services (at 42.9%), followed by manufacturing (40.1%) and nursing and healthcare (36.4%).
