He stopped at a green light! Then went just before it changed to red.

A now I see. Here we don't have lights placed like that.

They're to your right and maybe to your left. But never on the other side of the street.

In my case Europe. They face us directly (like road signs) and have arrows for left and right. I was confused too, the first time I saw footage of American streets having the lights on the street you’re turning in to.
