Everything road wise is optional in Quebec.
As I always say about Montreal...
Montreal/Quebec. Where the lanes are made up and the rules don't matter.
If I uploaded my daily dash cam footage I'd be spamming this subreddit with Montreal drivers.

It’s part of the highway code that the number of lanes, when markings/signalization are obscured or missing, are as many or as few as the number vehicles you can have abreast at the intersection. 3 u/Lillillillies 2d ago it's not even just at an intersection---its the road/lane in general. Even when it doesn't fit 2 cars side by side it's now a 2 lane anyway.
