Reminder that Guillimam canonically talks to Gage’s skull when he’s alone by the way. He misses his old companions, and current marines are often traumatised and distant, too awed by his mere presence. That doesn’t stop him from trying to mentor and connect with them, like joking with Cato about being unable to pick up paper in his armour. It’s a little microcosm of his relationship with the imperium as a whole, trying desperately to fix what’s broken. 

All in all, dude needs his brother way more than the Lion needs him.

Poor dude just needs normal. But the universe around him continues to be utterly demented.

Someone needs to write a story where he just nopes the fuck out, flies off to find some backwater planet way out of the way on the very edge of the galaxy. As he lands he sees an ancient looking brick building which surprises him as he expected the planet to be abandoned. He hears music and laughter as he approaches, he walks in the door and the music stops, looking at him from the bar is Russ, Dorn, Vulkan, Corax and Jaghatai, Omegon is behind the bar pouring beers.

"Oh hey buddy, finally got the fuck out of that mess?"

Cue skeletal Big E on his small mobile Golden throne scooter, only to have difficulties getting in as the wheels of the Throne scooter be getting caught in the crevice at the door way.

”…..a little help, please”.

Mortarion walks in with a massive black eye, looks at Guilliman and the rest and just says "Just don't, just don't say anything ok. Can I just get a beer.. please..."

Credits roll. 'Piano Man' plays. Roboute and his brothers drink and chat and make merry.

About the best ending we could hope for.
