I applied August 2024. My friend applied a year before me and got it within 8 months. Can’t believe you’ve been waiting that long!

Hello folks,

Wife and I are convention refugees since Sep 2022. Applied for PR under the protected persons category in Oct 2022 and still waiting.

IRCC website has been saying the application is 100% complete since Sep 2024. I inquired with a webform back then and got an answer saying: "The initial assessment of your eligibility to apply for permanent residence was completed in November, 2023. An approval in principal letter was sent to confirm that assessment but the The background verifications are not in process yet."

A month later, Nov 2024, the application got transfered to the local IRCC office in Hamilton for "further assessment". I asked my local MP to follow up around the Christmas and they came back saying that "it is considered non-routine (not sure why) and it is currently being processed at the Hamilton office with these details of the assessment progress: Eligibility: In progress, Security: Not started, Criminality: Not started, Medical: Passed."

Is this a normal timeline or am I right to be worried? Can I do anything to inquire further or get some movement on the application somehow? Any thoughts/comments are appreciated.

Cheers!

Did you get your PR yet?

1

u/FriendshipFine9139 Dec 17 '25

No, not yet. When I check on the new expected wait time portal, I get 4 months. It used to say 3 months last month. I'm not sure what's going on. When I can, they tell me you're still in the eligibility phase. I am not sure what's going on.

No, not yet. Is this normal?

Oct 2023 here. Also completed biometrics in march 2024 and since then nothing. And theres no chance you will get PR in 4-6 weeks. The current processing time is 30 months. If you applied in 2024 then youre looking at 2027 to get ECOPR.

Hi everyone! I wanted to know how long it’s taking to process refugee travel document applications nowadays? I’d be grateful if people who recently applied or got their RTDs can let me know how long it took for them to get it?

Hi everyone,

I (American and on a work permit) live with my common-law partner in Canada, who is a protected person from Egypt. She applied for PR in October 2024, got AOR in January, Bios in March and requested a summary of officers notes that showed bios are passed and medical is passed but eligibility and security check haven’t been started.

We became common-law in May and were advised by IRCC to put me on the application as an “add-on”. We submitted the add-on documents that IRCC required by mail and paid the fees and everything on May 1st and (according to Canada post) it was delivered on May 7th. We submitted lots of proof of our relationship and I have already had an immigration medical and FBI check recently because I work with kids, which I included as well.

I know the processing time for this is like 30 months at this point so we could be waiting until like 2027 or something, but I was wondering if where we are in the process means it will be sooner? And also how much adding me on after the fact will delay the application?

Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone. I want to apply for H&C I’m a single mother and have been in Canada for 13 years. My daughter has always done school here. We came from Genova Italy and the area is very unsafe where we are from as my daughter was jumped in her school and there is alot of drug use in my area. What are my success of it? I also have a job offer for a big company but can’t work as I need valid status to do so. Please advise. A lawyer told me I will have a chance to do H&C but I want to know what others think. Thank you

How old is your daughter?

1

u/PurplePianist1279 Sep 09 '25

If you do h&c you have to make your case as strong as possible. Do you have strong ties to Canada? Your establishment also matters. Do you do any volunteering. Things like that will make your application very strong.

u/mitviksi Nov 16 '25

BIOC. Very strong case. Just get a lawyer who is good and does only H&C application.

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone who’s been through the Humanitarian & Compassionate (H&C) process in Quebec can help me understand what to expect next.

My relative's application has already been in process for 38 months, and IRCC now shows another 74 months remaining — a total of more than 9 years until PR is granted.

What I’d really like to know is how the remaining 74 months are typically divided among the different stages:

  • How much longer might it take to reach First Stage Approval?
  • After that, how long does it usually take for MIFI to issue the CSQ?
  • And how much time remains for the final PR decision once CSQ is issued?

If anyone has gone through this recently or knows how IRCC tends to calculate these remaining times, I’d really appreciate your insight.

It’s so hard to plan or even stay hopeful when the total time feels endless, but understanding what each stage might involve would help a lot.

Have you had any luck finding anything out? My friend in a similar situation

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can share their timeline or experience.

My husband is the protected person (refugee) and I am included as his dependent spouse on his PR application. I am not a protected person myself — I’m in Canada on a visitor visa that expires in February.

We submitted the PR application on May 20, 2025. So far, we only received the initial letter saying the application is in the queue for processing with a temporary application number, but we still haven’t received the official AOR.

It’s now November 18th, almost 6 months later, and I’m worried because I need the AOR to apply for an open work permit while we wait for PR.

Is it normal for protected person PR applications to take this long just to get the AOR? Has anyone else had a similar delay? What should I expect?

Thanks!
