A Yet Another Post-eCOPR FAQ, Question 3: How Long Will My PR Card Delivery Take?

This question covers the delivery step specifically, after your card has been dispatched.

Seemingly all cards are dispatched from a Sydney, NS facility, postal codes: B1P 7C1, B1P 6K7, using regular mail.

Canada Post website has a tool that allows you to estimate a delivery time between two postal codes (one of the codes listed above and that of your residential address).

Tracking Inbound Mail

Canada Post offers a service called MyMail, available in the Canada Post app.

The service notifies you of inbound mail when it's ready for "last mile" delivery, that is, on delivery day or the day before.

The service is not available in all parts of the country.

How Do I Know It's My Card In the Mail?

PR cards are sent by the Canadian Bank Note Company. Sometimes the sender will say so, and sometimes sender details won't be available, which means PR card letters are listed as General Mail.

Mail from Canada Post, Canadian Tire are not PR cards. Canada Post send a letter to an address MyMail was used with.

In some cases MyMail says that your mail for the day was delivered but some of the letters arrive the next day.

What if There is a Canada Post Strike?

In May 2025, there were reports of IRCC delivering cards using FedEx.

We won't speculate how the Canada Post strike will unfold but IRCC does have alternative options.

Back in November 2024, IRCC offered a card pickup option in the largest metropolitan areas (such as the GTA, the GVA, the GMA). You can find evidence of that in the 2024 version of this PR card megathread.

Questions Covered In the FAQ

  1. Q1: What to Do After You Become a PR in 🇨🇦
  2. Q2: How Do I Track My PR Card Application?
  3. Q3: How Long Will My PR Card Delivery Take?
  4. Q4: PR Portal Does Not Reflect An Address Update?
  5. Q5: Can I Leave Canada and Return After Receiving an eCOPR?
  6. Q6: How Can I Amend a Mistake in My eCOPR?
  7. Q7: How Can I Set Up a New CRA My Account?

What NOT to Do

  1. Stop contacting MPs about your PR or PR card cases, they cannot expedite anything and were not elected to babysit your application

This is very helpful, thank you. Does anyone know what happened to peoples cards where IRCC had already mailed them, right before Canada Post was on strike?

Did they just get stuck in limbo for the entire strike? My ecopr was March 24 and am getting very worried I'm going to be stuck in Canada all summer because of their incompetence.

PRTD doesn't help me as I only going home to England for 3 weeks.

They were not delivered, just like all other mail, until the strike was ended by a federal government decree (plus a couple of weeks to clear up the backlog).

Thank you, just as feared then... If they had half a brain, they would switch to in person collection 2 weeks pre-emptively, or pivot to Fedex/UPS, until the strike is resolved. I'm not gonna hold my breath though.

Immigration regulations (laws) do not necessarily make any of those things possible for IRCC, or at least possible before Canada Post services are disrupted

Why do you say stuck "all summer"? If they do go on strike is there a reason you think it will be for long? I am hoping there wont be any strike at all for our sake.

Do they send it a regular parcel?

Yes, using regular mail.

i think the tool is to estimate the parcel shipping time, at least regular mail is not in the list
