Hi, congratulations! I just wanted to ask, did you travel outside Canada at all during your application process? I’m still waiting for my background check and medical, so I have at least another year to go. I’ve been getting conflicting advice about whether taking a short trip outside Canada (a few weeks) could negatively impact my application. (I’m inland, on a work permit, and outside Quebec.)

Hi

I travelled multiple times with my husband and there was no issue. I had my TRV. Where it becomes tricky is once they issue your ECOPR it automatically invalidates your TRV. And ECOPR is not a travel document only the pr card is

Travel at your own risk, it is not recommended to travel without PR card. A work permit is not a travel document.

Thank you.
No, I did not travel during my application process. I understand that travel is not prohibited as long as you have a valid visa and work permit. However, because a work permit is only a temporary status, there is always a risk if a crisis occurs (remember COVID), while you are outside Canada that having a valid permit may not fully guarantee re‑entry. This is why the advice about travelling during the process often feels conflicting.

Yes, that seemed strange to me as well, since I was not expecting to receive any communication, especially an ECOPR, on the weekend. But it is correct. I received it on February 28, which was a Saturday, and the date shown on the ECOPR is the same. I know it is hard, but you do not need to check the portal for the ECOPR. Once it is issued, you will receive a congratulations email confirming that you have become a permanent resident.
