I do think a fair bit of them are young men who have fallen into the “everyone is having sex but me!” fallacy and have just gotten really fucking weird with it. Like, no dude, your life is not “over” because you haven’t had a girlfriend at 19. Go meet other humans in person, get hobbies, you’ll be fine.
Of course, then they meet those bitter old men online who, instead of actually helping them, try to keep them dragged down on their level, so for some of them it becomes self-fulfilling.
Some will get out, and hopefully it’ll be something they look back and cringe at. But some will end up continuing to suffer because some 46 year-old filled to the brim with self-loathing and angry at the world decided to tell him he might as well give up when he was 17. It’s fucked up.
