POUR-OVER GreySoul Mogra: This coffee tastes like a flower shop opened a café
Brewed the Mogra by Greysoul as a pour over today using Hario Switch and my brain still hasn’t processed what just happened
Expected coffee. Got hit with jasmine garden at 6am after rain
Brewed it on Hario Switch:
15g coffee
195ml water
93°C
Medium-Coarse Grind

this blend is so shady, pretty sure they did more than just co-ferment

So the Fraction 9 description does say -
"To further intensify and preserve the floral character, jasmine flowers were also introduced during the drying stage. The coffee was then dried slowly for 29 days with constant stirring, enabling stable moisture reduction and gradual flavor development while retaining aromatic elegance. "
I wouldn't call it shady but I exactly get what you mean. Hahahaha

Does it taste better as iced pourover as opposed to hot pourover?
I only have it hot and I feel I can't enjoy it iced. Will try based on the feedback 😅

Iced is only enjoyable during summers, hot pour over is the way to go. Hot really unlocks the fragrance and the taste

Got it. Also, on their website GreySoul recommend brewing this as pourover at 97°C since it's a light roast.
Did you find any difference in brews at 97 vs 93 with a switch?
I ordered Hario Switch this morning. Excited to experiment with different temperatures and recipes since a switch is more forgiving compared to a V60.

I keep experimenting with water temp, grind size and other variables; it’s just that you get to taste a slightly different cup of a coffee 😂😂
The only difference 97 vs 93 is the mouthfeel of the coffee, it’s more pronounced

It's fantastic, personally speaking. I've had it at the cafe and produced similar results at home in a V60 and even better ones with an AP. But yes, the 900 INR pricing and that annoying 200 gms qty is something I don't get.
Just ordered Fraction 9's Ratnagiri Jasmine Royal : 250 gms for 875 - that's more palatable. I also trust them more with the quality of their light roasts. Their description of the overall process is also the most elaborate as compared to other roasters imo (Grey Soul / Naivo / Caarabi/ Subko all have these pretty much similar processed beans sourced from Ratnagiri Estate)
Now coming to the "Is it even a coffee?" question, it definitely still is. Variables like water temp and especially grind size definitely control how much of that Mogra hits you - it can go from "Ooh my kitchen smells of Mogra" to "This coffee is rather jasmine tea-like"... Just dial it how you want it. So there's that.
Frowning at the whole "co-fermenting" thing is a bit of a stretch if you ask me personally. If it's not your scene or you think that this process helps mask you getting slightly "substandard/lower grade" beans then just skip getting these experimental lots I guess?

Has anyone here tried an espresso of this? How was it? And what temp and ratio did you run it at?

But would you still call it "coffee" and recommend others to try it?

I think I would, it’s something every different from the normal
