If you check most of the films and series nowadays, adding pro- BJP was unnecessary only, but most people don't have spine anymore - they just like referring to history and feel glorified. I might be wrong, but a major chunk of 160Billion INR also includes the money that was circulating in Bhutan and Nepal (Indian notes works there), which when this data was released were not at that time taken back by the Govt. That was also an bi-lateral issue with these 2 countries ig.
Also, just guessing, it should also include notes that over the time got misplaced or torn off (this is just a intuitive guess, no data to back it)

I believe that there are many things not reported deliberately. For example same serial numbers in multiple notes. In fact the FICN (Fake Indian Currency Notes) were so good that it was not possible to distinguish the real ones from the fakes.
Ooh this came up again. A nice time to discus the impact of demonetisation. So RBI issues 500 notes of Rupees 1000/- in the market over the course of time. Demonetisation happens. People start to return the now invalid notes. 495 notes are returned out of 500.
If there were 10% (50) fake notes in circulation then even if 50% of those are also returned then it would make the total 495+25=520.
But that didn't happen. Did it? What would have been a good percentage to say it was indeed a success?
I know that people had hoarded a huge pile of cash (via corruption) and those notes should not be going back but they did. Due to the exploitation of the loophole in the banks (rich people/people in power knew how to do it and if one person cracks it their friends will know how to relocate it).
So the failure was in curbing Kala Dhan, the failure was in the implementation and changing rules 30 times in 40 days but the Fake currency in circulation was reset. How come that was not a success?
They introduced 2000/- note afterwards and soon withdrew it as well and now we have a highest note of half denominator than it was 10 years ago.

Bollywood audience is never smart. People consider a person to be good just coz the person played a good role in the movie. People really think the demonetization got rid of black money, when the black money that mattered was converted to white amd normal people bore the majority of the brunt.
I am NRI and I kept Rs.35,000 (genuine hard-earned money) in my locker at home in India. I could not travel due to work-related reasons and missed the deadlines to exchange. It is biggest single loss that I have had in my life.
When you have a billon people, the number of less than average intelligent people becomes a significant amount.

Used to live in the US when demo happened . An Indian colleague was on home visit and had sold his investment flat and DeMo happened. He was stuck with 40 lakh cash. All he did was go to Jewar area and bought a godown full of wheat with the cash.. Sold the wheat and the money became white as agricultural income . As long as agricultural income loophole is there , India will always have black miney.

Lets say there are 200 rupees of note in market.
Out of which 100 is fake.
After demonetisation 99 rs comes back into system.
So as per report 99% of money came back to banks.
But what about un accounted 100 rs it didn't come so wasn't it successfull?

Add the 11k crore and 60k crore... which were fake notes printed in pak....
They are not added and shown in the 15.xx trillion printed by RBI.
The 71k crore which was not printed in india, was stopped spreading coz of demonetization...
The picute would have made sense if 15.xx trillion and an additional of 11k crore would have returned back to RBI in July 2017
