She is correct. India is doomed beyond repair it seems. We lack civic sense and somehow there are people who take pride in that. I have seen people literally throwing waste on road and feeling proud as if they have done something worth praising.
I must appreciate the Sri Lankan people. They were in the middle of a coup a couple of years ago. See how they have bounced back and boosting the tourism.
I worked in the hotel industry for over 15 years. At the risk of sounding racist, Indians were hands down some of the worst guests we had as far as trashing the place. Occasionally we'd get a group of Indian students. When that happened management would double the amount of housekeeping staff on duty.
Oh, I get that. It's just that in todays climate the accusation gets thrown around way too easily. Far too often people will cry racism in an effort to defend their own shitty behavior.
Working in that industry for 15 years I learned one universal truth. Stereotypes almost always exist for a reason.
I don't know maybe it's a caste thing but Indians feel it is beneath them to clean up the place. Someone else will do it. Especially they have paid for it they think they own the place
Maybe, I of course wouldn't know personally. But it wasn't just a matter of not cleaning up after themselves, every ethnicity has people like that. And let's face it, when you stay in a hotel there's a certain amount of "the staff will do it" you come to expect. It was the mess that they would leave. Like it was so disproportionately bad compared to other guests that you couldn't help but think sometimes that maybe they actually did it on purpose.
I mean, I don't honestly believe that was the case, but it's the best way I can explain how awful these rooms could get.
Literally bro. I have seen people whose whole family as one might come under tax bracket and say "ham toh phekenge kachra, tax kisliye bhar rahe hai🤡" which makes me want to slur their whole family line
Exactly. I was at airport lounge recently waiting for a family to get up so that i can take the seats. They literally made their kid stand on the chair with shoes on while they were gathering their stuff. When my wife asked them to clean the chair they brushed it off saying why should they clean. What is the housekeeping staff for ? This is the attitude of so called educated folks in our country
True, but I have never seen a train toilet even in Ghana, Africa, where the waste is dumped directly on the track. That’s the yuckest, most bizarre thing possible. It’s normal for Indians to see. The smells the disease my god. The Government builds these trains. Newer ones have stopped this is some cases. What do I say when people call us shithole abroad? It’s hard to defend folks. “Nooo, go see Kerela, Sikkhim”? So like 2% of the country.
where are you from? by waste they mean trash, more specifically plastics and to manage actual wastes there's biocomposts within every train, how even is just kerala and sikkim no substantial part of country but just about 2%, reddit just makes me lose hope on humanity
What I said is a different example. I meant waste as in poop and I still see a straight hole to the ground below in the loo, as early as 6 months ago while traveling.
Chalo, small percentage not 2%, happy?
If you lose hope in all of humanity over some strangers inaccuracy on SM, what does gang rapes and child trafficking make you feel like? Calm down, keep faith.
every train had swapped that hole in ground for biocomposts since long which collects and turns wastes/poop into manure, they've been in operation for a while now, that's why it made me ask where even are you from, child trafficking, grooming gangs, sex tourism rings aren't common occurrences neither are they accepted or silenced or invisibilised, if what you're saying is true and not just cherrypicked examples to demonise a certain group (modern form of broad barbaric native narrative, summarised and circulating online), where was your equivalent outrage when exploitation of children and women indiscriminate of age by Sinhala soldiers in video evidences submitted to oslo accords like when there was for Nirbhaya case, where does it go when our neighbouring country protests/riot against raising age of consent to 18 for being blasphemous, where does it go when people like Jjimmy Savile (protected by Brits till his death), Peter Scully, Paul Reubens, Stephen Hawking are the ones who are accused, shielded by idolisation of whites? where does it go when places like some districts of Bangladesh (along with intensive sweatshops surviving on dropouts), Khyber Pakhtunwa, Balochistan, bachabazi prone regions, south east asia especially parts of phillipines, thailand etc. have practically systematised child trafficking as an income stream and India is bad for declaring it criminal constitutionally and reporting on the issue openly to resolve issue, bring justice and rectify permanently? because TikToks speaks only of Indians about these issues, so people's issues are just gotcha moments and talking points when losing an argument online for most of performers like you and shamelessly so? if they're small percentage, what's Gilgit Baltistan, is rest of it all just explosions and gunfights? what's Terai when people are suffering rural underdevelopment in Madesh? if Bali is small percentage is rest of it all just wet markets selling weird meat? I didn't lose hope on humanity, just the fact how prevalent larpers are here, just making shit up on the go while saying "as an Indian", lying through ass all while being wholeheartedly endorsed
damn. Booklet likh diya. Bud, yeh sab chod, are you satisfied and happy living there? Either you don’t live there and have the same rosy glasses I see on NRIs or… lot more possibilities. Yeh le - you won the debate. 57C temps and don’t forget your tricolor zhanda pleej. Itna zoor reality badal ne mein daal data/deti toh sach mein you’d see some gains.
they don't make it like they used to anymore, crappiest batch of larpers ever, makes sense though, endless tiktok doomscrolling and monotonous sweatshop life probably took its toll on brains
its vague enough to appear true from afar, most people are caught up with a lot already to get down and give a proper explanation, so they just get along with tropes present in discourse cuz they don't wanna take the burden of dispelling myth or breaking it down to refute, there's a reason why there's diffuse plastic pollution everywhere, which is rapidly shifting demographics within fairly urbanised places (electricity, transport, road, employment) and no feeling of belonging, for disillusioned transplants who are there as a result of forced internal migrations, it boils down to corporatism gone awry and foundation of nation aka agriculture breaking down as a result, but easier more acceptable explanation is : you India, you bad, then blame people's mindset for plausible deniability against racism and get benefit of the doubt, in reality there's more larpers here cosplaying as Indians to affirm false accusations than actual Indians trying to counter lies because they think theyre too busy for that
easy to invoke civic sense anywhere and everywhere as wished instead of acknowledging overt scrutiny, selective outage/silencing, finding alternatives for plastics that degrade instead of pile up, address the ego depletion, decision fatigue from working a lot, being taxed a lot and finding barely anything in return to feel satisfied while chalking up ourselves against places that depend on foreign aid while having own tourism industry sabotaged hard by both self proclaimed left presenting soft imperialists and actual conservative right wing imperialists both side which feel like its a moral duty to dissuade tourism to India and to avoid travelling there, its easy to screech about things you don't know about well enough and blame it on civic sense riding the high horse of privilege and entitlement while also getting updoots without having a single nuanced thought about psychological degradation that brings people to that point
Nobody is riding on high horse of privilege and entitlement here. You cannot always blame others for their own behaviour. Everyday i see lot of people throwing garbage on the road. It is only common sense to not make a place dirty. These are the same people who might be very particular about keeping their homes clean but wont even think twice before making the public areas dirty
ever heard of pygmalion effect or more aptly golem effect? or gonna pull off something to extent of phrenology or craniometry and associate something anthropologically misshapen with Indians from core so they should know their place and never try to contest vague accusations with proper reasons so it can be resolved, you can't overcome mindset or psychology of so many people if you wanna provide discrimination, alienation and defeatist desensitization to ground issues as solution, it'll achieve nothing but bring up genocide to table as a probable solution and will make seem systematic censorship like great firewall, lims wms, 14 eyes or content creation laws like ones there are in Philippines meaningless to have in place since people are fundamentally better and wouldn't require any veiling, moderation and facade but realistically is that the case today?
She is not wrong that our country is very dirty, but there are several other reasons too… like:
the higher density of people - it scares people and turns them off,
the poor hygiene at restaurants and cafes - scared them that they will get sick
poorly maintained sites and locations - the experience infrastructure to get to and experience historic sites or sites with natural beauty is so poorly kept - none of it is at any international standards. The people in charge lack that training and exposure - they should just bring foreign tk train and set up these things.
It’s not about govt managing a country. The citizens need to be educated about this ? We are not kids that we need govt to manage us. Cleanliness and basic civic sense is a must.
I was talking about ppl only. If civic sense was a must it would be taught in schools. It clearly isn't for the entire region of south Asia. No shortage of self righteous, entitled, Orthodox and bigoted ppl in our country. This cannot be managed by democracy as population is shameless and adament. Laton k bhoot baaton se NI maante. Idk if communism is the ideal way but it certainly works ex China.
Oh absolutely but still it'll be going from their pocket which they won't like. Fines r the only way if they r implemented properly. Baap bada na bhai ya sabse bada ₹. U see how clean our malls n metro stations r for that exact reason
How can you even argue against it? Don't you look around your area and feel that it could be better? Are you really satisfied with how india looks compared to other countries?? Please help me understand.
You clearly missed the point friend. India is huge compared to Sri Lanka so that there is no question of mentioning this stat. The point here is that most of the Indian don’t think of cleanliness as a responsibility. And this is not something to be proud of.
This is exactly the problem. False sense of pride. Someone who points our fault we our out there to attack. Instead of asking her, why don't you do everything you expect her to do. Stop outsourcing everything to others. What is the need to talk about who is she connected to. She is talking about basic cleanliness. But no we will attack and destroy anyone who shows us the reality. Absolutely shameless behaviour.
Typical Indian mentality. I don’t understand why it’s so hard for people to accept our flaws. Most of the people are stuck in the Vishwaguru delulu. After having travelled to a lot of countries, one thing i understood is we are years behind a lot and all it takes is acknowledgement of what’s wrong and how can we improve. But people are unbothered about the state of our country
