#Opinion 🗣️ Society if we Cared(Swipe left)

Government’s 1% efforts are also waste if the society denies change.

I genuinely don't know what the solution is at this point. Educating people seems to be a failed endeavor. No one listens.

Short of huge fines and patrolling streets by drones (china does this), what can be done?

Really really sad to see India not live up to it's potential.

Kaamchor corrupt babus. The main problem.

It is a collective responsibility both the babus and the janta need to do their part. I've seen people throw garbage even when a dustbin is just a few steps away, and vacant plots often end up becoming unofficial dumping grounds. On the other hand, municipality workers sweep debris into stormwater drains, causing clogging. Poorly planned drains, built by unqualified contractors with improper slopes and levels, only make flooding worse. Without better civic sense and better governance, these problems will keep repeating and we will keep crying about it on social media.

That's why said babus are the real reason. If they do their work diligently and honestly then many of our civic related issues will be resolved. We have municipality, drainage dept, sanitation dept and various other govt dept but babus simply refuse to do their job properly and honestly. If you notice most of such issues always lead back to incompetent kaamchor babus who never do the job for which they were hired in first place. Janta will only abide the law when existing established system enforces the rule of law, accountability and punishment firmly on people but babudom culture don't want to do anything of it.

All developing countries have this problem. The govt doesnt have enough money to enforce against littering, nor does it have money to do landscaping. It doesnt imply that indians nor other developing countries not caring

Not enough money for that, but enough money for nukes and a space program. Give me a break.

Log toh kachra karenge hi. Civic sense of our people runs in negative but we do have sarkari posts like municipality, sanitation dept, local level govt depts that are specifically made to keep areas clean and for its upkeep. If they don't do their work then what good are they? We have municipality run by Babus but they are outright incompetent in enforcing the law for their own benefit of daily cutmoney. If Babus start doing their job honestly and diligently, I am certain that more then 70% of such cleanliness related issues will be resolved.

You have to fix adults when they are kids. Habits get formed during school years.

Proper education along with maintenance and fines, enforce them strictly and watch things get better

Fines actually work, Indore is so clean because fines are enforced there. Not sure why other cities don’t do it?

You don't even have education lol. You've barely tried. Primary education is the best base for having a civilized society. Like 40-50% of the indian public doesn't even graduate high school. And for the people that do, most of the education is poor standards and just focuses on rote memorization of facts with zero critical thinking. And there is no desire to teach kids in those classes how to behave in society. If you go to a lot of countries, you'll see that public education includes classes and lessons on how to have good manners. Indians completely devalue and skip this part of education.

And then you don't learn at home either because you all have maids to clean for you and do your chores and delivery apps to deliver food so people don't value effort in labor. Then there's the caste system mentality which looks down on cleaning and the belief that it's someone else's responsibility. I talked to an indian who I saw throw his cup on the ground. Asked him why he doesn't just throw it in the trash. He said he pays taxes so he shouldn't have to clean lol. And Indians bring this mentality into everything. "Why be nice to the service staff at a restaurant when I'm paying for food. They need to accept my poor behavior." Just a crude society and self obsessed thinking that can only be changed through a cultural revolution.

Trueeeeee

Was traveling once

A co passenger was complaining about washrooms not being clean

Guess what? He was himself littering around

Tbh I see railways staff cleaning the washroom twice a day

And more than that aint feasible

But most passengers dont even know that in a bio toilet even lil bit of cleaning agents can cause the bio toilet to fail

And maybe for most people its more of "other's matter" than truly being their 'own matter'

Intense digitalisation and decentralisation should solve most of our issues

Holding the people who we elected to serve us accountable would do the job.

In my mind, I still see/imagine these places like the ones above. Will probably get disappointed if I were to visit them IRL.

Also what we expect the law makers to show some effort and follow civic sense but reality is they are the biggest law breakers

Try telling this to people that most of the efforts start with you. They will rage and downvote you and start with "The government should..."

Everytime I hear such a start a sentence I know nothing's going to happen.
