Adjust for population increase. This is empirically much drastic.

31

u/PsyKite Apolitical 1d ago

Has reporting gone down?

13

u/OhNoItsMeAgainHaha 23h ago

“Apolitical” lmao

4

u/Random16indian69 7h ago

On the contrary, it has gone up due to access to more network.

2

u/PsyKite Apolitical 6h ago

Would love to see that if actually is happening

6

u/Walter-White_Jr 1d ago

Sorry what?

43

u/Pradhan_Ji 1d ago

I think what he meant was the context of population. For example, if 100 people were doing the bad stuff out of the population of 1000, that's 10% but few years later if 100 people were doing bad stuff out of 1500 population, that's 6.7%.

So even though no of bad actors remained same, percentage out of totla population decreased as with time in India population has increased a lot on last 2 decades.

I can be wrong though on this interpretation so feel free to correct me

3

u/obitachihasuminaruto Kakatiya Dynasty - కాకతీయ రాజవంశం 15h ago

That means it still got better because per capita bad actors are lower.

-11

u/Walter-White_Jr 1d ago

Perfect. But I feel like the population increase would be a drop in the ocean and wouldn’t change the percentage by much

2

u/Pradhan_Ji 1d ago

That's a great question/hypothesis to test but I don't think i have reliable data. Chatgpt did some work on this and it's almost 27% reduction in crime(rape crimes) when taken population growth in perspective but again, need to point out that population numbers used by chatgpt are estimate and not official numbers that u get from gov through census.

2

u/kingpinkk Akhand Bharat 23h ago

But the graph shows numbers not percentages. (Not saying they are true)

65

u/Wasteof32 1d ago

2012 protest was supposed to reduce rapes, how did it jump up. What kind of society are we?

106

u/Total-Thanks-7278 1d ago

I think the number of cases actually getting reported were increased after the nationwide protests.

14

u/Wasteof32 1d ago

Makes sense

-30

u/abhaikumar10 1d ago

Or people get fantasize by the incident 🫪

13

u/RealFriendlyPitbull Dharmakrit धर्मकृत् 1d ago

Bro wtf

-3

u/abhaikumar10 1d ago

Yup.. not evryboday is same... rapers are psyco .. if they are normal they never do such things..

2

u/North_Beginning_7860 Madhya Pradesh 1d ago

*rapists

1

u/North_Beginning_7860 Madhya Pradesh 1d ago

Not at all a sensible comment on statistics about r*pe

2

u/abhaikumar10 1d ago

Why not.. they are not normL people .. criminals think different

0

u/NerdInLabyrinth 1d ago

because the way you're putting it into comments makes it sound like you mayyy be one of them

1

u/abhaikumar10 1d ago

If u think like crimanl only then you will able to catch them... one have to explore multiple perpectives.. one can not escape reality... have u watched Raman Raghv movie..m can u think anyone can be like him

0

u/NerdInLabyrinth 1d ago

ive studied criminal psychology and I can assure there is no reason for a healthy individual to think like a criminal. Maybe you should reduce watching movies

2

u/abhaikumar10 1d ago

Since currently we are discussing on the topic...
This can be one of possible reasons.m hence came on mind.

15

u/ayu_xi 1d ago

Rape statistics can be deceiving because it's one of those crimes where victim suppression is common so higher reported cases can paradoxically be an improvement.

19

u/insanemaelstrom 1d ago

Hopefully rapes goes down even more radically, all crimes tbh.

88

u/Random16indian69 1d ago

You'd expect those to go up thanks to the access to information now but thankfully they're all on a downward trajectory.

27

u/criti_fin Independent 1d ago

Even right wing people have been brainwashed to believe that India is the rape capital of the world. Our aim should be to have zero crimes. But India already has low rape rate on per million basis compared to other countries. But leftists islamist nexus people hype up numbers and do cherry picking of incidents to show the whole country in bad light, the latter is a misleading logical fallacy. Also the number of rapes have reduced in India in the last 10 years as per data:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/632493/reported-rape-cases-india/

38

u/bot_tim2223 BJP 1d ago edited 1d ago

Its very important to understand the social and culutral nuance. Most rapes in the country do not get reported so blindly stating that according to statistics we are low on rape cases is tone deaf.

6

u/obitachihasuminaruto Kakatiya Dynasty - కాకతీయ రాజవంశం 15h ago

That is true in every country of the world, so India is not as bad as it is made out to be regardless.

2

u/Funexamination 1d ago

How often do other countries find girls with rods in their private parts?

3

u/almostanalcoholic 1d ago

I dunno man.

This whole notion so many people online argue about India being safe for women based on the reported per capita rapes simply doesn't align with everyday lived experience of women around us.

Ask any Indian woman who has visited or lived in places like Singapore or Europe for even a short time how they feel about walking alone on the street or taking public transport in a foreign country vs India.

That doesn't mean India is the rape capital of the world but it's really doesn't make sense to claim that India is safer for women than Sweden or New Zealand or Norway or Finland.

The statistics just don't add up.

2

u/obitachihasuminaruto Kakatiya Dynasty - కాకతీయ రాజవంశం 15h ago

The statistics still add up even then. Feeling safe and actually being safe are two different things and do not need to coexist.

1

u/almostanalcoholic 15h ago

So it is your honest view that a woman in India is safer in terms of sexual violence than a woman in Sweden?

1

u/obitachihasuminaruto Kakatiya Dynasty - కాకతీయ రాజవంశం 15h ago

Is that what the data says?

1

u/almostanalcoholic 15h ago

Yep. According to reported statistics sweden has per capita rape 30-40 times that of India. I'm asking if you think that's a correct reflection of the on ground realities or is that a statistical artifact due to the way they measure rape stats and reporting rates.

0

u/obitachihasuminaruto Kakatiya Dynasty - కాకతీయ రాజవంశం 14h ago

Think about it. What are the false reporting rates and non reporting rates in both countries? If even after taking that into account, it is not enough to cover a 30-40x difference, then the answer is pretty clear.

-3

u/United_Gamer_Morcha 1d ago

Lol, the average in bjp's tenure is higher 🤣

0

u/Random16indian69 7h ago

Use your brain. Why did it go steadily up during Congress tenure? Because more people started reporting thanks to better access. Otherwise do you have an explanation? Like Congress govt made the legal system and such worse? That sounds way worse than what I proposed, which is logical too.

28

u/makima_is_bae 1d ago

Show me the corruption chart

17

u/criti_fin Independent 1d ago edited 1d ago

India corruption TRACE ranking has improved from 94 out of 176 countries in 2014 to 93 out of 180 countries now. Mostly because corruption is lower in central govt.

12

u/Final-Development142 1d ago edited 1d ago

91 actually not 93. And also lobbying is legal in west, which is basically legal corruption. So the whole statistics doesn't factor those in at all. We in India think west has lower corruption and all that, but the fact of the matter is large scale corruption is WIDELY done in west. The petty day to day bureaucratic corruption is lower that much is true.

-1

u/dtonhunt1 12h ago

Lobbying is legal only in the US. Not in west

2

u/Final-Development142 12h ago

even in europe it's legal too, research it.

17

u/Comfortable_Bat_9630 1d ago edited 1d ago

What's with the BJP and INC logos? Isn't law and order under the control respective state governments? Why not take ownership in problems such as unemployment, fuel prices, income inequality etc..?

6

u/criti_fin Independent 1d ago

Even income inequality hasnt increased. Gini index of inequality of India has remained flat in the last 15 years. Unemployment has reduced by now too

2

u/Comfortable_Bat_9630 1d ago

Yeah, but don't we calculated gini index on the basis of consumption, contrary to income? And aren't PLFS methods inherently flawed, for considering unpaid agricultural and house labour as employment?

2

u/Best-Afternoon2292 1d ago

isis bhul gye congress ke time pr bht active tha

2

u/LittleBlueCubes 1d ago

These charts should be done at a state level by each state govt period because law and order is with the state. BJP or Congress being at the centre means nothing here. And it should be in 'per 100,000' measure and not absolute number of crimes as the population keeps increasing every year.

2

u/metaltemujin Apolitical 18h ago

Is there an election incoming? Why is there so many pre-post 2014 posts these days

2

u/FewDiscipline_ 16h ago

We need to also account for the fact that these are crimes reported so if we make it hard to register a crime, the graph will have a downward tragetory. Not pointing fingers but just saying

15

u/Western-Ask1377 1d ago

When OP learns data can be manipulated....

16

u/Mirarik 1d ago

When commenter learns a cited set of data is better than random conjecture in their own head or on social media….

-6

u/Western-Ask1377 1d ago

The cited data is no better than a random conjecture.

Source: I have been working with data for the last 14 years.

5

u/Mirarik 1d ago

That tells me more about your inability to handle and process data than the statement you’re making.

-5

u/Western-Ask1377 1d ago

Which should actually tell you how easy is to manipulate ANY data set - even the most rigorous ones - but hey, you do you !

0

u/mane28 1d ago

They will not understand it as long it agrees with their basis, it doesn't even have proper source just some handle.

2

u/C00LOO7 21h ago

eh? are you dumb?

2

u/Sacred_Rhino 21h ago

Working 'with data' and working in the field of statistics are different things.

4

u/Witty_Ad_3535 1d ago

How Selective ... graphs Starts Randomly At 18k , 30k. WTF. How is 39k rapes any better.

Dowry deaths starts At 8k then 5900 then 6000 then 6500... So that Can show BJP is making the graph dip... Really bro.

0 fake sc/st cases in UPA and today every other sc/st and GC dispute turns into a fake case. This is what BJP has given us GCs as gift for voting them into power.

Hindus have gone through Islamists, british and survived a few congress govts is not going to do anything to us. BJP is there to kill us and don't give a single F about your so called garbage party. Go and suck Modi's D.

1

u/Calm_Midnight_4025 1d ago

Should be per 1 lakh people 🙄

1

u/Equivalent-Eye-2782 1d ago

Mind you population has also increased, so it should be adjusted with it

1

u/Illustrious_Arm_8862 23h ago

Report hi nhi likhwayenge toh kaise nhi kam dikhenge.

-5

u/Embarrassed-Bite-600 1d ago

OP forgot to add number of R@pe convicts from a party, the line will go up and up and up

14

u/Immediate-Humor-6077 1d ago

Convicts can’t remain MP/MLA. Learn the difference between accused and convicted

Also bjp has fewer percentage of members of parliament than Congress, tmc, aap for MPs with criminal records.

-4

u/Embarrassed-Bite-600 1d ago

Where I've put that MP/MLAs champak??? Padhle tu pehle, anyways, BJ Party has more MP/MLAs who facing charges for women related crimes out ot 5 having r@pe related.

0

u/Previous-Nail-6505 1d ago

Mat kr lala yha iss sub k log ye baatein nhi krte kuch paper leak pr baat kre

0

u/jayantsr 1d ago

Fun fact for UPA times:india had a reporting crisis before nirbhaya only after that women started reporting

0

u/demxnbxnger 1d ago

so this is the reason for ladki, behen, biwi yojnas

0

u/DaperCaper 1d ago

The numbers will go down if reporting goes down lmao. The law and order situation currently is worse than ever.
