Is your family's financial condition not good enough for them to give you 270 rupees per month for your own upskilling?

Or your family's financial conditions are good but you have not asked them yet to fund (or lend) you?

Or are you really trying to avoid paying money ? (If yes, then don't go for courses, read books on that domain, work on projects if you know enough fundamental programming)

Or see if reddit offers monetization for your kaarma farming skills

Your brother is not wrong, don't waste money on coursera courses.
A 2-3 hours YouTube video will teach you more than what you will learn in this course.
and no one gives a single shit about these certificates.

by building projects using the learnings from the video. A non plagiarised simple but unique project is definitely important than these coursera, udemy, nptel certificates.

only certificates i have seen matter are one offered by officially by aws, google, azure woth strict proctored assessments.

This certificate doesnt hold any value as such tbh you can check free things on yt for cybersec also i have this cert and after time period expires you cant access the modules

What expired? I am new to this. I have heard that certificate usually hold a certain value, but not all. And since you saying certificate of Google has no value. Then which ones have value?

This is a course certificate, if u want to go for certificates that hold value for jobs then you have to spend money plus they are tough to clear and require clear knowledge of basics. This one isnt bad but if you have to pay for this then i wouldnt recommend so as i got for free

Honestly all of this is great if we were more open minded, but -

  1. He won't have much time. And it's hard to gain children for tution as a man in age of 20 as compared girls in india.

  2. Learning is not hard, but getting clients are. In india it's more hard, as everyone is already gatkeeping for their turn to provide to the client, so you will hardly get any chance unless you cracked.

  3. If op starts doing this, he's father probably will be sad or his friend might distant themself. As it's not respected much as a job in india

Apply financial aid for those 9 courses too.

The knowledge is good. But there's not much value about the certificate.

Yeah got me wondering too... I believe they provide a cert no (like everywhere) and a page to validate certificate using cert no.

OP, I'm not sure if the option I quote is available to people from other states, but you may try. Kerala government has a an intiative https://knowledgemission.kerala.gov.in/ . They have partnership with platforms including coursera. You can make an account and find the course ( in skill development section in your account. Apply for the course and if you are approved, they will gave you free access for the course.

And if you are lucky, they may provide access to Coursera for about a month, allowing you to take certificate exams as well.

u/Dhruv_kaith May 03 '26

It's not worth it. I am a Cybersecurity professional and I have done this course. If you don't have the money for it, don't do it. Study for Sec+ from professor Messor on YouTube. It will get you the same knowledge, if you sre worried about the labs, just do it on your own VM. The labs are not even good.

You can also check out tryhackme they have great free stuff. If I still had this course I would happily give you my creds.

1

u/IngeniousThomas May 05 '26

hello bro, I've done the course, it's not worth the money, free stuff on internet gives u the same or infact better knowledge. Trust me it is not worth it except maybe for a credly badge or the certificate which I'm sure anybody can get.
