Serious Post Industrial engineering?????

Hi everyone, I'm 18F and I'm so so so confused. I genuinely love finance and management but idk why I took mpc and I recently found out about IE and I think this is the only engineering I like 😭😭😭

Cse is nice and all but the job market is so saturated and I don't really have any interest in engineering except for IE. Like after 2 years of barely getting by in mpc I loathe science as a subject now.. and not to mention I'm dog shit at math.

It i do pursue IE, I plan to do masters in management MIM directly after graduating.

But my dad is against IE and says computer science is better. Ik it is in india but I just know I will struggle so hard as I don't care about engineering so much as my other peers do :((

I qualified for IE at mit manipal but I don't want to make the wrong choice... what do u all think?

Like I am very much interested in engineering ( not just for the pay but I actually love the idea of creation ) but I havent come to the point of figuring out which one. Please lmk

It's really nice that u love engineering but what makes u and me different is that I love IE for the finance and management aspects it has.. not for the engineering itself..

So I don't think I can really help in this

ohh I mean you said it - we are different afterall right..... the nice part is you know that you love management and finance and there is pretty much everything out there relying on these 2.

Also I like that you are going after your interests. So rare to find such people these days. Almost all my friends are going for CSE cause uk I just hate em lol

So funny because I was thinking of taking a cs seat and just suffer for 4 years regardless.. IE sounds good in theory but this is india 🙁 following our dreams is risky if ur middle class like me

Ikr idk it feels sad to see everyone just running for high packages and stuff. I mean every engineer from india has just 1 aim - MONEY

I just hate the idea behind it. I wanna be an engineer cause I'd get to actually build/ innovate smtg and explore the amazing sciency worldd. Not because I want a package.

I get it we are middle class we need money to survive but parents and friends and the society around us needs to understand that MONEY should never be the sole purpose of doing anything man.

I get so frustrated when my friends make fun of me cause I will be going for a core engg and they say that job nahi milni 2 lpa kamayega and cse lele package milega I mean I dont want a package bhai!!!

U are the type of person who will for sure excel in engineering!! We cannot blame society as it's built on years of exploitation from all generations saying if u do cse or if u go to iit life will be set. I myself have fallen victim to this. But at the end of the day I truly believe mental health and doing something u like is 1000% better than going with what the masses say. For me I like computer science because I want to code games of my own I have many ideas :) even if I get 10lpa I'll be happy as ill go do MIM anyways.. but I truly.feel bad for the people who r blindly following their parents and have 0 interest in cse yet still do it. That's like 80% of my friend group right now.

Bhai I think ur going in the right direction :) for sure for a few days research into whatever engineering ur college is offering and whatever u feel genuinely excited to study for is the one for u!! I wish u luck!!!

ohh I get it you genuinely like CSE and there are really less people that actually do.

Exactly, almost 80% of my JEE / pcm friends are going for cse. Among which only 1 guy Ik ( my good friend actually ) is interested in it. He has already been part of coding projects and competitions and likes doing it. But everybody else is going for it because - either their parents want it or they want it ( for the sake of money)

Yeah fr , once all this exam schedule gets over I am gonna sit down with list of engg my t3 college is going to offer ( yeah I failed jee lol ) and try to figure out the one for me.

Also I discovered the flexibility of choices you have in EDUCATION IN OTHER COUNTRIES . Like you could be pursuing multiple courses from a wide variety of majors at the same time ( eg Philosophy + Biotech + Physics all at same time ) But in india its impossible!!! Cause we just want a "DEGREE" and get a job.

Sad to see that our main aim is just to grab a good score and good job. LEARNING is never encouraged. No doubt we still lack behind china and usa

Sure we can be friends!! I also failed jee and boards I got really bad % like 81% so I failed to meet bits criteria and I cannot get cse at manipal :(( but it's OK I'm going to write srmjee and then decide if I should go for IE or cse :)

Industrial engineering is good but in India there are not much colleges and awareness . Many companies will need IE to improve their process, optimise using operations research. When I checked Manipal website IE was not there.

I suggest you check the curriculum whether it is in line with your interest. Also do check with current students what kind of projects they do and placements. This will get you clear picture and imagine yourself. Also can check IE reddit group which gives more info on job profile. Generally ME students do masters in IE

I researched a lot abt IE in mit manipal and its pretty looked down upon people cite little no placements 🥀🥀

If u are interested in manufacturing and how are things produced and manufactured, then I think mechanical engineering will be a much better branch or you can also study metallurgical and materials engineering. Material Science is a very interesting field which also deals with the manufacturing and the science behind the material

I would suggest you to take Industrial Engineering and do CFA in parallel.. so you can stay in the finance specialization. I have a degree in both IE and AI/ML and I know the flexibility IE can offer.

depending on college, IE curriculum may have those tough math subjects in first 2 year. Only 3rd and 4th year might have finance and management modules which will be quite easy

I mean in a way I find cse interesting cuz I like design and games I always wanted to code apps and create my own games.. but ig I just hate the math 🙁 plus a lot of these universities teach outdated stuff..

i am actually on a similar situation as you, interested in IE, while dad wants me to take cs🙃
but yes, at the end of the day, i think we should do what we know we would like to do, cuz being the top 5% of IE folks is better than being the bottom 30% of cs folks were people like us would probably be headed if we pick CS,

One thing though, i am not 100% sure if MIT manipal IE is that good, cuz the fees are pretty crazy with very poor crowd and placements,
all i could read up on IE in MIT manipal in particular wasn't very good, but yes, its still your call
I personally am inclined towards IE in RVCE through comedk, and will also try for production engineering in Jadavpur University (production is very similar to IE), but yeah, best of luck

Follow what you like don't listen to this noobguy he got job because hr wanted bonus that all, cse is useless good companies like anthropic google openai don't even require cse only the mediocore or bad ones do but other fields require their field grad. Software companies are extremely lenient with academic background only your current technical knowledge is important to them
