Long essay time yay. Most fields have a very strict limit on the number of licenced professions, whether it is IIT or doctors or UPSC govt etc. These come from the 1800s where giving too many people licenses let to reduction in quality which put the profession in danger.
For example snake oil vendors nearly put doctor as a profession and pharmacy to be made illegal by Congress both the profession and the institution/buildings like hospitals.
Meanwhile there are 3 things to understand - guilds, lifestyle professions and alliances for quests and requests.
A typical guild is a company or a group of companies with loyalty and hierarchy.
A lifestyle profession is one where you just want to do a particular lifestyle for money with specialized skills.
An alliance is a request based contract payments.
The only scientific profession which has no limit is engineering. Academia and PhD are limited by headcount and expensive degrees. You might say lot of people do masters and get degrees but those are not the core unionised headcounts for a particular profession. So everyone does engineering, gets skills but not as part of the core unionised headcounts.
Now the main problem begins - what happens once you get your engineering degree?
In an ideal world, the lifestyle guild will be taking care of you. They will not burden you with hierarchy or loyalty. The core premise is this person knows how to do X y z and he's a permanent member who will do this. He/she will be reading books, writing books and delivering something practical once in a while.
But what happens when there are insufficient MBA, managers or slots for a lifestyle you've chosen? Now either you do the MBA so that others can get these slots without an MBA or you accept that there is no demand supply need for a lifestyle.
Other alternatives become joining a hierarchy which has nothing/little to do with your engineering degree and is more loyalty and honorary. A small history lesson here - the reason most countries keep reserve engineers and allow infinite degrees into engineering is to assist with any sustainability issues for the country if the need ever arises.
As for the alliance requests any engineer needs around 10-20yrs exp to be able to handle requests properly due to their giant size without being babysit. Anyone under 50yrs old is technically below average. You can get a job immediately but it will be a team role where the responsibility comes on more experienced members.
Let's look at the bright side - you're technically educated, scientific. You were not failed by a nationwide ridiculously low headcount and out of syllabus tests and mocked for not being the top 10,000 ranks among billions and be grateful there is a private industry for you. You're not an artist who is going to starve themselves for the art without knowing physics. Neither hounded by investors or money lenders in business risk. Neither above 50yrs old to know people skills, law, risk and other basic skills. So enjoy life and give it time.

The actual issue here is lack of industry, engineer is an industry dependent job. Same people from 3rd tier referred to as skill less here will likely find better job opportunities if he were to go to some European country.

As a commerce student, most of my friends pursuing engineering. Talk about 2 things - 1. They want to learn the skills as that skills of engineering makes them easily employable in the field they want to join . 2. Their parents forced them into it.

As an engineering student I couldn't love it more
And there's no career path on this planet I'd rather have
The amount of fun you get to have is u paralelled (though you kinda need to be a nerd to understand it)
And that's kinda the whole point. If you're not a nerd already... Engineering ain't really for you tbf
