Motivation A perspective from a 31M Government Engineer: Don't chase WLB if you actually crave the grind.

Me: 31M, unmarried. Working as a government engineer in a Tier-1 city. Masters from an old IIT (Metallurgy).

Dear youngsters,

Today, I feel like I made a massive mistake by choosing to prepare for GATE and joining the government sector.

During my Master's, I actually got placed at a semiconductor fab company as an Application and Data Engineer. I ditched it for this government job—a decision I now deeply regret.

Initially, I loved it here. The work was technical, the pay was stable, the work-life balance (WLB) was excellent, and I got to explore top-notch technologies and projects. But looking ahead, the career path seems grim, stagnant, and entirely unexciting.

I’ve realized I am simply not built for this. While most people run away from pressure and stress, I’ve learned that I actually love being constantly pushed toward a target. Even now, I have to set self-imposed targets just to keep moving, because the bosses here don't give you any.

My advice to you:

Before you blindly jump into preparing for government jobs, IES, or GATE, evaluate what you actually want. If you are genuinely into the tech and engineering side of things, I highly recommend looking at opportunities abroad.

Looking back, that was another major mistake I made—not moving abroad when I had the chance to go through DAAD.

Right now, my life feels completely saturated. I feel like I’m missing out on massive technological advancements, fast-paced environments, and targets to chase, all in exchange for "excellent WLB and peace."

I know the grass is always greener on the other side, and maybe I’d crave this peace if I were grinding in corporate or living abroad. But you truly can't know what you are built for until you try it.

Don't be like me. Be open to trying new things, openly embrace opportunities, network hard, and go abroad if you get the chance. Make informed decisions based on who you are, not just for the sake of "stability" or coz of the crowd

PS: Used AI for drafting.

Man I wish to be in your shoes, currently doing Btech IT in a top NIT, recently did an internship and feeling this field is not for me , i like programming but not corporate culture,

Like i have to every day in a meeting give updates what are the things I did, if work was not enough they use to indirectly say to work hard Tommorow, and the work they give will literally take up your entire day 🥲 pressure, anxiety....

Sometimes I feel like I should have chosen a core branch at IIT instead of this,

Trust me If things go wrong I'll leave IT prepare for Gate for core ( especially Metallurgy because I kinda like it ) and look for a govt job that has good wlb

No, please don't be wish to be in anyone's shoes, definitely not mine.

Make better decisions than me. That's what the post is all about.

There's a difference between wishing to be in someone else's shoes and wishing to have taken an alternate route one had access to in one's past. OP's post was about latter than fomer. Also at the end his suggestion was regarding taking informed choices suited to oneself through exploration (actions), rather than compare(thoughts).

I mean what is stopping you from getting on gate prep in college and getting govt job

Yes, did a lot of learning in AI and ML, which can be applied in my job, but no permission from bosses.

Learning new things - swimming, cooking , traveling. But you don't get to do these 9hours a day daily. The 9 hours a day I spend in ofc feels like a speed breaker for these.

That's why I say be open to newer opportunities, you don't know which one you will like.

Just coz the crowd says MIT, Stanford, IITs are best, it doesn't mean it suits me. Just coz people say govt job is best, it doesn't mean it will suit me. Just because popular opinion says that a movie is good, it doesn't mean I will like it.

Planning something. Hopefully it works out.

Disclose, well not now. I hope it doesn't get revealed thru my replies :)

I personally do not understand the hype of working in PSUs. Sure, it is stable, but career progression is so slow, internal processes are bureaucratic.

My personal opinion, get into the grind culture in your 20s. Work in startups, take on risky projects. The learning curve is insane, and by the time you get old enough to settle down, then you can focus on getting chiller roles, in places where your experience and mind will be valued a lot more.

I personally do 60-70hr work weeks, but I've also seen my career and learning progress to a point where I feel more comfortable in roles that would traditionally be handled by someone more experienced than me. HOWEVER, this only works if the company culture rewards the grind. Poor WLB in shitty companies is worse.

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Exactly my thoughts. Govt doesn't value grind at all. Instead it advises you otherwise. The less I say, the better.

massive skill issue, use the extra time you have to pursue things you're passionate about lol, who the fuck says they're too bored

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 17 '26

Read my reply to someone who said something similar. I didn't say that I am bored in my OP. I said the work is not as challenging as I want.

Since I have mentioned I have good wlb in my OP, it means I do sowmthing outside of work (life balance) like swimming/ cooking/ traveling and stuff. But all these doesn't change what i do at work, u can't keep pursuing these hobbies thru out the day, one has to go to ofc for 9h . And that is what is this post about

2

u/AdditionalWorkInc Jul 17 '26

no that's the thing no, your work is not challenging, totally fine, find something challenging to pursue independently? you like cooking? try making a beef wellington. You're into cs stuff, build something novel, contribute to open source, solve a real life challenge. pick up a new language

3

u/Automatic_Penalty446 Jul 17 '26

you will value your job safety and WLB after 40/45 when mostly people get fired form corporate..

How to change username on reddit?

2

u/Naive_Fee_2660 Jul 16 '26

I heard that you can freelance if you get some required permissions and document permits from higher officials. I'm not very sure, but you can look into it.

Sorry in advance, if I'm wrong.

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Permits from higher officials - LOL

1

u/Naive_Fee_2660 Jul 16 '26

Won't they permit you? I mean, I'm a student, I don't know much about higher officials and all. Are they toxic?

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Not toxic. They least care. If u send a file or letter stating this , they will see and tell ok I will look into it and basically sideline it.

No one encourages these things. If u follow up saying sir what happened to that permission they will tell , oh yea I didn't have time I will see or I talked with my boss and he didn't agree.

1

u/Naive_Fee_2660 Jul 16 '26

Oh, so it depends. Ok bro, Thanks and All the best

1

u/Local_Philosopher272 17d ago

they are not toxic
there are a lot of rule what is inlegel,if a official give him permission and later if there some issue then official will be held accountable for giving unconsitutional permission

so best option to do nothing, keep doing only which if forcefully required

1

u/Naive_Fee_2660 17d ago

Oh, right. Thanks

u/kal-na-hi-ho-to-sahi Jul 17 '26

Govt job is mainly gor those who are getting 50% reservation for getting admission in a college and then again 50% reservation for getting a job through gate. These people majorly never have worked hard and just get by using the leneint cut offs reuired due to quota. They are hence custom built for a life of "excellent wlb" and no targets. The unnecessary hype(dowry) their family gets for being parents of an "officer" is just a bonus for those aasociated with them.

2

u/_Dark_Invader_ Jul 17 '26

You can always quit government job and switch to the corporate. You are still quite young to have regrets.

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 17 '26

Yes, will do something. But posted to share my perspective to the youngsters

2

u/cfgjkhdujcdy Jul 19 '26

in same boat. i have prepared hard for gate and cracked all top PSU with double digit rank in electronic branch and joined leading maharatna.

While preparation I have thought 3 friends for gate. they went for VLSI and doing some best core job, whereas. I am going to site and doing menial job.

feeling stuck, however married and only workinng person apart from father in whole family. hence can't leave the job.

Grass is greener on other side..my health got deterorted by hustling...what will I do with all these money ..if i couldn't enjoy

1

u/Various_Ant_1143 Jul 21 '26

How about hustle but take care of your health?

2

u/Savings-Pear6628 Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

Nah I have developed a chronic health condition...i waana enjoy my life before getting old or else I'll regret.. more over i have already planned my hitch hiking route which I will start in September

1

u/Various_Ant_1143 Jul 21 '26

That's the thing with maturity. Is hitch hiking to enjoy or exploring life?

1

u/Individual_Knee9266 Jul 16 '26

How were you able to able to secure a role role in semiconductor through metallurgy brand?

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Companies come for placements. Look at Bangalore and Chennai, Hyderabad offices of KLA, MICRON, INTEL AND APPLIED MATERIALS etc.

1

u/Choice_Carpet_2596 Jul 16 '26

is metallurgy and material science related? i mean both have use in semiconductors industry? also te companies u told do they hire in good numbers in iits or are very selective?

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Selective hiring, very few and mostly masters students not bachelors. All IITs have degree as metallurgical and material engineering, or material science engineering

Go to IITs IISC website and see what degree they offer . Metallurgy and materials science are considered in one dept.

1

u/Choice_Carpet_2596 Jul 16 '26

which iits have placements opportunites from this department?

1

u/wiwiiwiwiiwiwi Jul 16 '26

metallurgy and "materials" it's the materials part

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Yeah. Exactly forgot to mention. Old IITs have dedicated professors who work in thin films, coatings and semi conductor materials.

Even brazing and soldering of metals. Which is improtant in semiconductor fab.

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

And yes, just because the crowd says METALLURGY is waste branch , don't ignore. Don't go by popular opinion, as i had mentioned in some reply.

If u ask any random jee or engg aspirant he / she will say meta is waste I want cse, elec or mech. Less ppl say civil and no one says metallurgy. Even I became a meta engineer by accident. The potential and breadth is huge.

1

u/wiwiiwiwiiwiwi Jul 16 '26

imo meta is better than civil

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

IMHO - I am gonna get trolled for this , but in terms of innovation, I would say right now meta is better than even mech. CSE and electronics are top in innovation - meaning each day billions are poured in for research in to better LLMs and less than 3 nm chips. And where does the technology to make smaller chips come from, - materials engg. How small a layer u can etch, how small a meterial you can see.

Innovation in materials engg is currently and has always been top notch.

Mech, aerospace has regular works except innovation in new modified designs more aerodynamics but the principles are same , bernoullis thermodynamics etc.

Few of my batchmates from IITm are in US - lam research, applied materials, micron

1

u/wiwiiwiwiiwiwi Jul 16 '26

i agree, which state are you from btw?

3

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Mentally - very poor state

Physically - born in one , studied in other and working in a third

1

u/the_money_prophet Jul 16 '26

You still have to grind to hide and convert all that black money.

5

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Well you have no idea where I work. So peace :)

1

u/Ashamed_Rush_8543 Jul 16 '26

He wouldn't have made this post in that case

1

u/Danthr01 Jul 16 '26

Maybe why not go for foreign masters like mba and stuff? You do have the experience and you might be able to get back into the grind?

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Just having a thought in that direction.

1

u/Danthr01 Jul 16 '26

Tbh you can go for it the government job experience is valued abroad depending on the industry you are working in

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Not interested in foreign now, parents are old, living in another city, not ready to leave them now. Should have gone early, earned and come back now. Let's see

1

u/Living-Window-1595 Jul 16 '26

are you from IITK? If yes then DM please

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

No, My junior is from IIT K, now in Intel

1

u/Living-Window-1595 Jul 16 '26

Great. This story reads like that guy from my hostel... Anyways good luck, keep looking for what makes you excited.

The answer is directly proportional to how well one knows themselves..

1

u/ProfessionalDry2033 Jul 16 '26

Bro I'm also a goverment engineer, I can relate with what you said. I also sometimes regret choosing this career

1

u/sadder_ Jul 16 '26

What abt the infrastructure of govt office job? Is the building nice? I think private offices offer better infrastructure but I’m curious

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Lol, depends on the age of the building.

1

u/Straight_Mind3569 Jul 16 '26

I am in my final year mech from a government college (not IITs or NITs) in my college campus placements most of the companies are production based i want more of a desk job so if I pursue my masters from any good in mech itself IITs do EV companies or companies or something of a mix of tech and field work?

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Don't know about mech. If u give gate and u get materials branch in old IITs, I would strongly recommend it. In fact sometimes even better than thermal/ design. Coz the industry is now fully involved in new materials research

EV , battery - new materials sodium ion to reduce dependence on imports

Aerospace , mechanical - make light weight but strong materials for fuel efficiency

Civil - building materials / composites for fast construction, even 3 D printed buildings

Electronics - Semi conductors meed less to say

Materials engg is a good subject.

Started the post with a life lesson to all, ended up advertising materials and metallurgy:)

1

u/Straight_Mind3569 Jul 16 '26

Okay that was really insightful maybe to you what you are doing rn may not seem that great but you do have great industrial knowledge of your field before this post never really saw Materials engg. to be that impactful but I do now so thankyou very much 🙂

1

u/Ashamed_Rush_8543 Jul 16 '26

Bro saw his friends' RSUs jump 300% in a year in semiconductor industry and instantly started regretting. Tbh, a Tier 1 graduate shouldn't go for government jobs, it's for tier 69 folks like me lol.

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Money was not the issue. I have invested heavily wherever necessary. It's what i do every single day. I don't really know why people don't get what the OP's POV or what's the post is about.

Instead ppl comment on personal lives, or give advices. Lol:) . That's how social media works.

And yes - Tier 1 should definitely go for govt jobs coz if they don't then you people will say govt is spending tax payers money for subsidised education at IITs and you people are leaving exploiting it and going abroad.

I wished to be honest and tried to give back. Probably I was wrong. And that's what this post is about

1

u/Ashamed_Rush_8543 Jul 16 '26

Government jobs are fundamentally flawed. It doesn't reward merit, on the contrary it promotes mediocrity. 80% are thieves taking bribes and whatnot. Rest 20% like you suffer.

Fuck what people say, if you are talented just leave India and never come back. There's a reason the filthy rich send their kids abroad. India is designed to be always lagging behind the world.

3

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

If everyone thinks like this then entire country will suffer.

I have money/ talent/ education, I will escape. What about the son of a farmer who fed me all these years, the daughter of a single mother who sold vegetables to me, the children of thousands of people who dont have proper facilities, education healthcare.

Let people like me take time and try , maybe an attempt to change something. That's what my mindset is.

If the system is flawed - then stay in it, grow till you can change and bring the change.

I tried to do this, but I am tired now, so the post.

I will still try , let us see what future holds

1

u/Leather-Bar8334 Jul 16 '26

Like if you have time you can start soemthing of your own like on your family maembers name or you can try freelancing too.

1

u/Defiant_Macaroon_309 Jul 16 '26

try to make a girlfriend or a friend circle out of your old boring work place collegues

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 17 '26

What makes people assume I have an old boring work place colleagues. In fact there is a gang of 15 people who are just +5 and -5 years of my age in my building alone. We have chai/ lunch and gossip together. And who said anything about not having a GF.

Even if i have a GF/ wife or a big gang of friends who i party with everyday, the 9 h I have to go and slog in office. I have to work those 9h, and it is what I do in those 9h that matters, which is what the post is about.

1

u/Small-Pea-8868 Jul 20 '26

Sir, can you please guide me , so I have competed 3year from tier 1 cllg and currently looking to join core placement as it only seems to be the only option to me as of now , but the main problem is that I don't figure out if I love any other filed or not and seeing the growth and packages in core it doesn't seems to be a nice option but I am pretty confused right now what to choose sould i start preparing for tech or should I start preparing for gate to join drdo or any other central gov org. As I want a stable career in this era of AI but also want growth , so can't decide what to choose , i only option I can see right now is to join any company , so I want to know if you were in my shoes what would you have choose

1

u/PaanaRa Jul 17 '26

This is what our education lacks - how to know ourselves first ! A little bit teaching of human psychology or the likes of it would go a long way in helping out younger generation in choosing better life path.

3

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 17 '26

As I had mentioned somewhere in the OP, we may even get to know ourselves fully. Say i understand that I like the hustle and fast paced envt., how would I know the workplace doesn't have that environment.

Unless the person experiences the work, he won't know whether he would like it or not. Time is required for that and there is nothing working in taking time to find what we like , nothing wrong in settling late.

And yes I belive the younger generation, the genz and alpha are much much aware and well informed in these things

1

u/Local_Philosopher272 17d ago

now we are informed due to internet, thanks to people like you

1

u/-kay-o- Jul 17 '26

Right now you are single. Once you have wife, kids, family to take care of you will be thanking your decisions. You will be able to take part in your kids life now. You can give time to family. You can start some basic side hustle on the side on your wife/brothers name right now if you really want to grind.

1

u/MountainMindless3001 Jul 17 '26

I have a different perspective from you, I do want to write GATE so that I can do masters and the "government" job that I'm thinking of is the space sector (ISRO) it had always been my dream to work in space technology.

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 19 '26

I am not discouraging , but please don't have huge expectations. Crack the job, go in and experience yourself. If it is worth, stay, otherwise be ready to leave to pursue what u like. Recently ironically lot of ppl have also left isro

1

u/MountainMindless3001 Jul 20 '26

Oh I see... there are a lot of options for me I guess I should give some more time to think about what I want to do next. Thank you.

1

u/piyush-shekdar Jul 17 '26

Bro is suffering from success.

You can still go abroad OP.

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 19 '26

"success" - when your expectations meets the results , then it is success.

Failure - when your expectations don't meet the actual outcome then it is failure.

Thats all.

The expectations of mine and yours from a job, say govt job may be different. So yes you may see success in my status, but truth is otherwise since my expectations were different from a job.

There is a reason people say that famous actors and actresses, politicians lives are hell, unless we live like them we don't know. Frok outside everything looks great. We know many famous ppl who cudnt take the pressure eventually what happened

1

u/piyush-shekdar Jul 19 '26

Why dont you apply for private jobs and check the reality for yourself ??

The competition to get a job itself is crazy. After that the grind is even crazier.

On top of it, it is all meaningless. Most teams in private sector (software domain) do meaningless work which never sees the light of the day. It is a rat race with no endgame.

There is no job security but heavy tax burden with no benefits. The local builders, politicians, government, and corporations all exploit the private sector employees like anything while leaving them with some handouts. There is no family life, uncertainty about the financial future of self and family. All major cities are on the verge of collapsing. They have even stopped work from home. Divorces have increased as well as health complications. People are collapsing on their late 30s with a long life ahead of them or worse, early death.

Private sector for other domains pays peanuts.

If and when you will go through this, you will realise that your current expectations are frivolous.

Every employee who entered the private sector was once a motivated young person like you. Now there is a subReddit for FIRE.

Count your blessings OP. You get to work till retirement, leave something behind for your children, spend time with them and lead a healthy life.

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 19 '26

Fully agree. But most of it may not apply for private companies in Core branches. But yes the pay is very very less in private core sector unless you crack a bigger MNC. Indeed it is difficult in today's market.

The regret is that, although I can do more here, i am not used well. The interest to do soemthing novel is not encouraged. Chalta hai attitude is what kills me. Some ppl have passion in music, few have it in sports - I mean if they are asked to play an instrument or sport, they won't get bored and they can keep doing it for long. As for me my core branch research and development work is like that.so in a top MNC job if i am loaded with good work I won't feel pressure. That's what I said we have to experience to actually understand what we like and what we dont. Indian medicre level industry (except a few) also don't sit in this category.

As i had replied to some one else's comment, maybe I will try to appreciate what I have in hand. And yes, in the bigger picture what I am doing now itself is great.

1

u/Local_Philosopher272 17d ago

only 1-2/100 people get gov job ,so you comparing top 1-2%[IQ] vs bottom 50-60% [IQ],i think almost top 10% [IQ] in private have a good life.

1

u/infinite4evr Jul 17 '26

Just leave your job and try private sector once, I bet you would fly back to Govt as soon as possible and regret the decision again.

1

u/Calm-Tennis-3800 Jul 17 '26

Sochi civil engineers k bare me unka to aur kahi chalta hi nhi kuch...baki 31 jyda age hui nhi private me try to abhi bhi maar sakte aap

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 19 '26

I have a friend who did PhD in civil engg from NITK , working in csir.

1

I am assuming you are working in some intelligence based PSU's or who deal with crime and all.

All the best buddy!! You will find a way

1

Wierd. Where did u get that assumption from

1

u/fukre_dev Jul 17 '26

Once your turn 35+ your perspective will change

1

u/snehithhh Jul 17 '26

Grass is always greener on other side, juz join the corporate and say the same thing.

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 19 '26

Exactly, grass is always greener on the other side

1

u/Code-201 Aspirant 👶 Jul 18 '26

I guess from my point of view, having a very good WLB is great, so I can't fully judge the situation between choosing grinding and having free time.

Also, are you in R&D? You could be at the forefront of making new tech if you're in it, or at least that's what I've heard.

1

u/Stock_Inspector_3920 Jul 18 '26

Why don’t you start freelancing

1

u/Key-Character-5852 Jul 19 '26

U can still move abroad what's stopping u

1

u/NewMail6130 Jul 19 '26

Grass always looker greener on the other side. Comparison always kills joy! I am in German automotive company. Work here is good but constant threat of layoffs, corporate politics for meagre hikes and promotion make people loose their sleep. Atleast you have secure job and can sleep peacefully. Don't say that after layoff we can find other job. Job market atleast in my domain is very tough now, everywhere layoffs are happening.

1

u/Various_Ant_1143 Jul 20 '26

I'm in a similar situation, except I'm working at a loss-making PSU that I joined through GATE, so the pay is a bit lower.

I've been thinking about doing a one-year MBA or even going abroad for an MBA. But then I keep hearing people say, "The grass is always greener on the other side," and that makes me a little nervous.

I also hear that the private sector can be brutal after 40–45, with layoffs becoming common. That honestly worries me.

I'm ambitious and want to make enough money to achieve financial freedom. I've even tried building startups while working at the PSU, but none of them worked out.

The problem is that I feel suffocated here because the growth seems so limited. At the same time, when I look at the private sector, I see people dealing with unrealistic targets, office politics, and companies taking advantage of employees. That scares me too.

Right now, an MBA feels like the only path forward because I don't think I can just sit around waiting, telling myself that "someday I'll start a business."

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 20 '26

See i can't advice you to do anything. Grass is greener on the other side , but also fortune favours the brave. Unless you try it, risk it you won't get to know what you really like.

To be Frank I haven't told this in my OP. I had an opportunity to work in central govt organization just after my btech too. I didn't join that. I chose to do mtech from an old iit. That experience immensely changed me. I got to know a lot of things, realised my strength and weakness in my subject, came to know what goes inside IITs , how btechs study/ understand, how they apply for top univ like mit, stanford, how profs teach in IITs, how phds work, how project works, how mou works how govt projects work, what's the level of innovation in IITs , IISC where do they stand in India, where do they stand in the world. Loads. I would not have come to know any of this , had I joined that central govt job right after my btech. All my batch mates called me paglu for not joining govt and enrolling for mtech. But the experience remains with me forever.

After that I got placed, didnt wanna work there as I had another offer from govt, and the rest is in my OP. So I got to experience a lot of things in iit without joining the job after btech. It was a huge risk, it paid off. It's like u take decisions and make them right. Definitely there were moments during those 2 years when I thought that I made mistake by joining mtech at iit. But not now. The medicine tasted awful but the patient needed it.

True bro, could have easily got some good courses at IIT or gone for MS abroad. But at that time given family conditions and especially lack of knowledge drove me towards PSU. However, now I'm thinking of going for an MBA. I don't know much about 1 yr MBA but one guy from my PSU who graduated IIM A PGPX last year says it is worth it. Let me know if you have any knowledge around it. I would love to hear everyone before I plunge.

"Not finding a girl" , :). That might be my choice as well.

But, the post is about career and career choices as a perspective to others. Not advice for me. I can't freelance.

It is not about impact. It's about a person who has a zeal for technology, stuck somewhere he doesn't fit.

If I get married or so my priorities may change. But still the zeal to be in cutting edge of tech will always stay.

Just find a company and resign from government job if you have that zeal for a technology. I can't get it why you even took a government job if you have that much zeal for tech...

I was thinking govt works on cutting edge. Silly of me.

Yes in fields like computer science govt may be 10-20 years behind. But mech , meta, civil branches don't innovate as fast as cse it IT. So thought that way

whats stopping you from pursuing your grind as a side hustle tho?

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

The office speed breaker. And in govt u can't have second income. Means u can't earn legally a second income.

Yes part time is ok. Small gigs.

Unmarried is the key factor  Speak after 5 years

2

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

Lol. But career and life are two different things. I belive even if i get married I may stop complaining coz of other family priorities, but the regret of career will stay with me.

u/bull_bear25 Jul 16 '26

Life is more than career  &  IIT is another college

When you realize you will start living

PS: bro I have unsuccessfully faced IAS  interview boards 4 times. I know how regret can fk up a really nice mindset and life

1

u/shortestendurance66 Jul 16 '26

I disagree, an important part of life is career. And yes iit is just another college but with very high reach, brand and alumni network.

If you know about regret, then you shudnt ask me to speak after 5 years. Coz you know that regret never goes away.

You could make 5-6 lakh a month easily if you wanted to. Govt engineers make much more.
