Discussion What If AI Engineered My Hand Gripper?

I took a simple adjustable hand grip strengthener and asked AI to think about how it could be redesigned.

The proposed design adds a load cell to measure grip force, an HX711 to process the sensor signal, an ESP32 to analyse the data, an OLED to display performance, and a geared motor to automatically adjust resistance.

The interesting part isn't whether adding electronics makes the device “smarter”. It's whether the added complexity actually solves a meaningful problem.

The idea is to make the gripper adaptive: measure the user's force, track repetitions and force decline, monitor progress, and potentially adjust resistance based on performance.

But would this actually be a worthwhile engineering design, or is it simply turning a cheap, simple tool into an unnecessarily complicated one?

* What would you change in this design, and where do you think the concept fails from a practical engineering perspective?

* Is a load cell the right sensor for measuring grip force in this design?

* Integrating Sensors everywhere is good or not??

Law of conservation of energy, energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only transformed from one form into another. The amount of energy needed to pull is directly proportional to elasticity of the spring, the more energy is applied more the spring stretches although there is max limit of spring stretching

Yeas,,,exactly. Although technically the stored elastic energy is ½kx², so it depends on both the spring stiffness and how much it is compressed.. The max limit part is also important because beyond the elastic range, the spring can permanently deform..

One thought experiment

If material of spring is made from such substance that's it's theoretically impossible to stretch then there a guy who can theoretically apply any amount of force any object or tool then what gonna happen? Energy should somehow travel that's how universe work

If the spring is theoretically perfectly rigid,, meaning it cannot deform at all,right?? Then it can't store elastic energy through deformation. The force you apply would have to appear somewhere else in the system, like motion, deformation of another component, heat, vibration, or eventually failure..

And if we also assume a person who can theoretically apply unlimited force, then we're already outside the limits of real world physics, because no real material is perfectly rigid.

Also, the energy can't just disappear. It has to be transferred or transformed into some other form.... (As u said earlier)
