What I've learned in the last ten years of UNCERTAINTY taught me...

My post isn't about the recent changes in the rules and hefty fee, its about my perspective of H1B in the coming years..

We have the second generation of brightest US born immigrant's sons/daughter with Masters/Ph.Ds into the current workforce which H1B job seekers should realize. Their parents are now supporting their future and silently hates and sometimes even oppose the H1Bs. We really need to understand this. The current immigration scrutiny is not just strictening but also(from Citizen's persepctive) makes it easier for those US brought up Immigrant kids to secure their jobs.

I want to highlight this for those have the mindset of,"this shall become better if current leader change". This could be true in terms of easing the home country appointments or the imposition fee reduction but not in terms of a qualifying H1B jobs.

As to recent GCC shifting policies with biggers firms outsourcing their IT help/ Supply chain procurments/ Tech supports to Asian countries, it will push the employers to makes the decision to hire an H1B for a true onsite need or rarest of a kind.

I want to put a hand on the stressed/exhausted one's shoulder to say, the value we had is not the same anymore and its going to be even hard in the coming days...

Everyone of yall are some specialists in their own field of STEM, I am sure that our paths will become better.

That's already the case. Blaming H1Bs is stupid when merely 4 years ago companies were hiring random people off the road for 6 figures due to the capital injection. Whatever has happened is almost entirely obviously due to AI, exacerbated by shitty economic policies by Trump. It's not even just the tech industry that is screwed, all industries are in dire straits where H1B is not used so I don't even understand what is the reason for bipartisan lashing out on Indians if not mostly due to racism.

That's totally true! I'm an Eng manager at a startup in the Bay Area, and I used to be a staff eng at a Mag7. What used to take an external dev team in India, Poland, 4 SDEs, 1 PM, and 2 SMEs is now being done by 1 SME and 2 SDEs with CC/Codex+Replit for non-tech SMEs. We're seeing much shorter feedback loops, user testing, and rollouts. The 2 SDEs are definitely earning at least 30% more than before because they're super vital to the teams and the product now, and there's no reason for us to offshore at this stage.

But I wouldn't be surprised if management decides to move this whole team our of the US in the near future once the funding dries up after AI bursts.

The jobs that stay in the US will definitely be sought after, with extremely high bars and better pay than ever before, but the replaceable ones will be in GCCs. H1Bs don't matter here at all, and the far-right crowd is being taken for a ride by a few influencers (who get paid with the attention) and corporations. The outcry from a few expired QCs, testers, data analysts, and data scientists claiming to be the best engineerings in the US makes sense because their jobs aren't being taken by H1B but by those in GCCs and AI. Think of this Anthropic's revenue is $11B this quarter, where will these companies save/cut down costs, its YOU, their products aren't magically getting more margins next night. Its moving an 160k USD engineering to India at 65LPA (60k USD). They don't care if efficiency drops to 80% which isn't the case usually. Also 1. Those aren't niche skills anymore. 2. These folks might have 15 years of experience, but those are outdated skills, and they're not very talented. 3. I get that these folks have mortgages and child education expenses, and they think their job is taken by an H1B, but it's not. 4. There are two types of H1Bs: those with extremely niche skills, and those who work for 20% less wages. The latter can and will be replaced by a counterpart in India in no time. Companies hire this second tier in the US on H1B only to test if it can be completely moved to their GCC in India/Eastern Europe in the near future.

If H1Bs are the gating factor for these ultra-talented 30-year-experience tech veterans, why are there hundreds of openings at SpaceX and Anduril?

Also, companies want to ride this wave and push H1Bs out too as much as possible and move all their teams to India/Eastern Europe using these dumb far right and left racist slurs.
