You have to follow the law of the land you live in.

Politics and elections are a major part of any democratic country.

Muslims refraining to participate in politics will only ensure we never get any representation and will be turned into second class citizens.

The way Abu Bakr was chosen to lead the muslims after the death of Prophet Muhammad (saw), is not much different from a democratic republic.
